I am baffled and I need advise. My fan leaves are constantly turning brown - much like a Cal/Mag deficiency, in fact the leaves look exactly like Cal/Mag but it's not (or so I have concluded).
The Soil and Nutes: Sunshine 4, GH Flora Series (G,M,B) at a 3 to 5 ratio (I add nutes per instructions as if I were only using 3 gallons of water, but I use 5 gallons of water instead)
Supplements: I use Azamax both foliar spray and soil drench (as part of adding nutes), I also use BioBiz fish mix, GH Sub Culture M, and Foralicious Plus, per mfg instructions. I also use Black Strap Molasses during the flowering stages.
Water: R.O. Water with CaliMagic added at 5ml per gallon (I was using CalMag, but was told CaliMagic is better?)
Feeding rate: I have grown now for several years and know how to NOT overwater... LOL. I water till I get run off out the botton, then let the plant use up the water till the pot feel light, then water again.
Lights: 400
Room: Small, 3' x 5'
Ventilation: Major... I'm turning the air once every 5 minutes.
Temps: Steady at 74 - 78 range
Pests... YES, in fact I have just vanquished the evil small yellow (or white) worms that I posted about earlier. These things are impossible to kill... but I've about got it whipped with Azamaz and Neem Oil... No spider mites, no thripes, no other pest issues that I am aware of. (see photo of worms on stem) and the second photo is of an example of the leaves - (well, sorry - I can't remember how to add photos to this forum).
Problem: fan leaves show signs of Mag or Cal deficiencies... to the point were EVERY big fan leaf is affected, and smaller growth off shoots are drying up on the plant before I can harvest them as clones.... When I pull those big fan leaves, then the next size of leaves immediately start showing the same signs.
Flush PH: When I test soil from the bottom area of the 8 gallon pots, I use 7.0 RO water and mix in a hanful of soil so that it's a loose soup of dirt. My PH readings are now at 6.5 (they were at 5.5 before I flushed them) I flushed them last week with 6.8 water - and today the run off is at 6.5, but I still have failing leaves.
I started this new grow about 6 months ago, and have had one harvest that was laim at best compared to what I had done years ago. The plants all started out as healthy clones and grew nicely until about the 2 month mark, then the leaves started to die off. They went into flower and like I said, my yield was marginal. I blamed it on some deficiency.
Then, I noticed these small worms... but there is no sign of damage to the plant (such as with spider mites) the leaves do not display any signs of being chewed on or eaten... only browning leaves.
The plants are all displaying very slow, sluggish growth rates, leaves are dieing at such a rate that small offshoots that I normally use for clones are dieing on the plant.... they are drying up before I can cut off and use as a clone. I've never experienced anything like this before.
Help.... I'm about ready to throw them all away and start growing tomatoes!
Any advice, ideas, help?
Thanks,
Louie Z
