Lawmaker Doesn't Want Medical Marijuana Patients Smoking Their Meds

Co - A bill in the house that would regulate the medical marijuana industry could be taking a new twist.

One of our local lawmakers is proposing an amendment to the bill that would change the way marijuana patients medicate.

Representative Steve King says smoking anything is bad for you, and so he is going to propose an amendment to the marijuana bill Monday that says marijuana patients can take their medicine anyway they want except by smoking it.

King thinks the THC from marijuana could be put into an inhaler form or made into lozenges or pills.

You could also eat it in the form of food.

King says, "If in fact medical marijuana is for the relief of people's pain and hopefully for their health benefit, the idea of smoking that is not good for them. It's not good for their health."

But Travis Chambers, owner of God's Gift dispensary, disagrees and says, "A person should have their own way of administering the medicine to their self. For some people smoking works better than eating."

Local dispensaries like God's Gift say for some patients smoking is their best option to reduce nausea and pain.

Representative King says a lot of members of the house will be proposing new amendments to the marijuana bill on Monday.

Right now, the bill is aiming to find ways to regulate how dispensaries get licensed and the restrictions put on getting a medical marijuana card.

Debate of the bill could open doors for many more amendments and restrictions like not smoking it.

Smoking cigarettes is much worse for you than smoking marijuana. Perhaps there should be a law against smoking cigarettes. Are we going to force all cigarette smokers to wear a nicotine patch?

Pills from the pharmacy will destroy your liver. What is King going to do about that?

if medical marijuana must be administered like every other drug in the name of health, can we then expect all medicines to not kill or cause side as MMJ in the name of health? i hate having to listen to all those horrible side effects for the latter half of a "pill" commercial, when the first half of the commercial depicts a wonder drug. Or when they get recalled for killing its users. man that sucks. but we must make sure all drugs are administered in the name of health. Ain't that right Representative King??

Obviously this freedom lover has a bug up his ass over smoking cannabis. I would strongly suggest someone types up the exact same law he is proposing and replace Cannabis with tobacco. Then show it to him. At that point I would hope he would see just how foolish his law is.

Why does our government think by creating more freedom limiting laws they can think of, the better off we will be...This is the type of government bullshit that we are getting fed up over. Well I can say yes Mj is not good for you to smoke so they should just introduce a tax of say 3 cents on the dollar when they sell smoking tools to help cover extra healthcare here in canada but untill the US has free medical for every citizen who are they to complain about the health costs its not them paying the bills. So if you all get healthcare for free like we have in canada then yes let them add an additional tax to smoking aids to help cover the costs that will be incurred by heavier smokers getting bronchitis and shit and needing to go to the Dr more often. But in the same regard a person who purchases a vaporizer should be elegible for a Federal rebate of say 15% for choosing a healthier way to administer there meds, by doing something as simple as this they could probably get more people to at least vape it.

I would be the first to sign up for government subsidized vapes. I am poor and on ODSP as it is. The cost of a good vapourizer is about the same as my mortgage. It is more important to have a roof over my head than a vapourizer.

That is CannaPharm that does that if you choose them as your designated grower they supply you with a loaner volcano and also they subsidize patients on fixed incomes. But Personally I still feel its far cheaper to grow your own anyways. I know my crops end up costing me about $10 per oz to grow. Of course a poor yield will screw those numbers good.

But the states that have mmj laws really should consider using a program sort of like canada's cause I feel bad for our neighbours who arent able to have enough plants to allow them to use different methods like a bunch of small plants in a sea of green can actually produce more fine buds over a much shorter period of time.

Why can't THC be vaporized like nicotine is, in the electronic cigarettes? I began using the e-cigarettes, more than a year ago, and haven't had a tobacco cigarette, since. It just seems logical to me that if nicotine can be vaporized in several strengths, THC should be a good candidate, as well.

All you need to do is buy a vaporizor..

I already have a vaporizer... But it's a little hard to carry with me! If the THC were in the screw-on filters that attach to the cigarette-appearing batteries, who would know if it's an e-cigarette or an m-cigarette?
