Parents, patients and supporters of hemp oil use are telling Kansas lawmakers to not impede on their right to get the medication of their choice.

Bleeding Kansas protested at the Statehouse Wednesday against Senate Bill 489, the Hemp Oil Bill. The bill would establish a registration for patients seeking to use hemp oil for treatment.

Bleeding Kansas President Lisa Sublett says the bill will harm Kansas children needing treatment from various disorders and diseases, including pediatric epilepsy.

Sublett says legislators do not have medical licenses and this isn't their decision to make.

"They should not be practicing medicine without a license," he said. "This is in violation of our civil rights; it's a violation of my patients' human rights."

Sublett says the 2014 Farm Bill allows people to legally purchase hemp oil online.

"We have buried children, we have buried adults in this fight and we're through burying people," she said. "It's unconscionable the amount of ignorance and there's no excuse for it."
