As Poulsbo considers city regulations for medical and recreational marijuana, rules for the emerging statewide recreational pot market are also being ironed out.

The state's liquor control board has spent nearly a year forging new rules for recreational marijuana ever since voters approved the move in November 2012. The board recently established the number of stores allowed to sell marijuana in each county.

Kitsap County is slated for a maximum of 10 recreational marijuana stores. Bainbridge Island is allowed one store, Bremerton two, and seven stores will be allowed in the remaining county.

The locations were determined according to population and consumption data, according to the board. A total of 334 retail stores will be allowed statewide.

Other regulations will apply to the placement of recreational stores. No stores will be allowed within 1,000-feet of areas known to be frequented by minors, such as schools, playgrounds, public parks and transit centers. Retailers can only sell marijuana and related items. Marijuana cannot be consumed at a retail store. And stores will be allowed to have one 1,600-square-inch sign for their business name.

This is awesome! I live on Kitsap Peninsula. Finally a safe place to purchase legal bud and bud products. What a time to be alive.
