Twelve-year-old Kentville girl Morgan Oulton has finally begun taking cannabis oil to control her severe seizures after a fight with the provincial Department of Community Services.
Oulton lives in a care facility operated by the Yarmouth Association for Community Residential Options and along with epilepsy, she also has autism, cognitive and behavioural problems, and is considered a flight risk.
The Oultons briefly took back their parental rights in order to start cannabis oil treatment last week, but the family announced on Friday that YACRO is now cooperating with the family.
"Morgan is all settled back at YACRO with staff — excited to watch her progress with treatment," Chantelle Oulton posted on Facebook.
The family said in a news release that although Morgan has just started her treatment, they're already noticing some improvement in her condition.
"So far we have seen a slight reduction in both frequency and duration (of seizures), as well an increase in appetite, alertness and overall cheeriness."
Morgan will be monitored closely by YACRO staff, family and doctors for any changes.
