A judge decided on Friday that nine medical marijuana dispensaries in Fresno must close immediately because they do not comply with the city's zoning ordinance.
Judge Alan Simpson issued a temporary restraining order against the nine dispensaries, stopping them from selling or distributing marijuana until at least Oct. 22, when a hearing will take place.
The city argued in court on Thursday that the dispensaries violate a zoning ordinance requiring them to comply with both a state law that allows them, and a federal law that does not.
Dispensary attorneys argued that closing them would cause "grave and irreparable" harm to the businesses, and would violate the tenants of free enterprise.
