Nice tight nodes. It is my opinion that this is entirely a function of the amount of light you give them, and is one of the primary reasons you DO give them tons of light.
I believe you are correct sir... give them as much as you can get away with... I've even put em out in the sun when they're small

I've even put em out in the sun when they're small

So glad you said that. I was considering giving them a bath in real sun outside for like six hours a couple days a week. My only concern with doing that is inviting bugs which would never be an issue otherwise. But this time of year here I might be able to get away with it. Is there any reason related to the sunlight to NOT do this? I get it about the bug potential. But is there any way natural sunlight can hurt them? It's obviously WAY WAY WAY more light than they get in any tent.

There are some great videos out there discussing light wavelengths and the impact on the architecture of the plant. The results seem pretty conclusive and my interpretation puts the blue spectrum retarding stretch and resulting in tight nodes and red accelerating it with wider nodes but I am sure overall light intensity is a factor as well and don't forget, those spectrums are covered in your lights intensity.

Here is a link to a great source of information about the effects of light on plants.
(6:42 starts to discuss light quantity and quality; very informative!)

My plant was so stout that I had a hard time starting LST. It literally looked like a cabbage or something, I was perplexed and my friend told me not to worry as this is generally what you strive for... my light is pretty much a no- name full spectrum white LED so I am not sure what made it so tight and bushy other than intensity. It's nice to have a good problem for once...

Here is pic of mine at the end of week 3 - you can see how tight and compact the nodes are from where I have her bent over for training.

This is almost exactly what my two Pineapple Upside Down Cakes look like, especially the smaller of the two. Both of them are WAY bushy and short like this. I'm waiting till they're in their 5 gallon final pots (2-3 days away) to begin LST in earnest, but I started on all five plants with bending and tying the branches out. And mine are almost at the same age as the plant in this picture. SO....what happened with this plant? Did it get tall? How did it turn out? These two plants being significantly shorter and bushier than the other three has me slightly concerned in terms of the scrog. Do you have any pictures of this particular plant beyond this point that shows what it did from here? That would help me a lot I think. I've never seen a plant grow so bushy and with such tight ass crazy close nodes as this one and the two I have going. The similarity is stark - almost exact. Any help?

Here she is today. She is still pushing white pistils so I am letting her take her sweet time..

Day 131 (week 10 of flower)

This might give you more perspective... I have a pretty small setup, more of a pocket grow.

Jesus Christ, that is straight up ridiculous. That is ONE plant? Unbelievable. You're looking at more than a pound from one plant it looks like. Maybe closer to two. That is completely insane. Killer job, man. Whoa. I forgot I was following your grow already, but I hadn't seen this. I'm completely blown away.

I wish I could tell you what I did but this was my first run so the only advice I can offer is to try your best to keep all the 9 parameters in optimal zones to the best of your ability. The rest seems to happen by itself... If I had to share the biggest lesson I learned; it would be to exercise patience. I would have harvested weeks ago and missed out on a lot of yield. The next test will be the quality so I have my fingers crossed...

You can set them in a sunny window for the first day or two to keep an eye on them. The only thing about the sun is it gets HOT... make sure to keep an eye on them when putting them out for the first few times and definitely keep an eye on the water level as sunlight can dry em fast. If they start to wilt get them out of the sun quickly... sometimes it might take small doses of sunlight at first to acclimate the plants (kinda like put em in sun... see some wilt and put back in shade until they stand up and look healthy again then give em more sun if that makes sense :laughtwo:).

9 Parameters? That's a new one. What are the 9 parameters?

Florida state government is voting on legislation to limit the THC level of any pot product sold to 10%
There goes the neighborhood. :passitleft:

Lmao. I deserved that. I got away with it my first grow, but that was only one tent. And even that was dumb as hell. Lol.
I've tried it before myself. Unless you are a monk living on a mountain, you will never be able to do the job a timer can.

9 Parameters? That's a new one. What are the 9 parameters?
Lol, sorry. That is from one of Dr. Bugbee's courses. Essentially light, air temp, air humidity, wind, root zone temp, root zone humidity, pH and and nutrients. If you are interested I can try to find a link, it was a very good course.

If you keep all of those parameters at optional values, you should have the best product possible...

So here's just a quick pictorial update: I opened up the tent door that faces the garage door and opened the garage door all the way to see if I could get a picture of any of the autos in the sunlight based on the angle of the tent to the sun and the open door and all that. This was the only one I could get with no shadow (without moving plants). My Gorilla Zkittlez. Only have one of her. MAN do I wish I had more. The Cinderella Jacks look basically just like this too. Tons of side branching between nodes one and three getting ready to pop with an assist from me in a few days. All four of the original transplants are this size and have the several branch growth thing going on between nodes. She's about 8" tall. When I look at her beautiful tight nodes it affects me the same way as seeing a smoking hot girl in a bikini. I'm actually shocked at that considering these guys are growing up under blurples, although I do have 604 actual watts of blurples on them. (My supposed 1200 watt lights each draw 286 actual watts, lol, plus what should be 120 more watts from the four UFO lights is in actuality 32, thus, 604 actual watts.) Anyway I'm pleasantly surprised with the autos. So this picture is her with natural sunlight from the one side but also still under her blurples. But it's better than a straight blurple pic.

Lol! I did it quick, trust me.

Happy Monday Guys -

I have a couple questions to toss out relative to autoflowers if anyone has time to provide any input. It's greatly appreciated.

Autoflower Questions:
- I want to begin adding silica. The big autos are basically on day one of week four and the others are younger by ten and 13 days respectively. So when should I begin silica, now? And how often does one apply silica? I have also read that many many growers frown on using silica once flowering begins, is this how anyone here feels?
- How often should I use CalMag on the autos? I have read that since they are working so hard to process 22 hours of light daily (I'm on 22/2), it is beneficial to use it with consistency even if you're using tap water, which at this point I am. So far all the plants have been hit twice with CalMag and none of them show any issues whatsoever. Is it possible to use too much CalMag?
- I use molasses in my watering once flowering begins, all the way through the flush. I did it my first grow and it worked spectacularly. But that was photoperiod. Is there any difference with autoflowers or any reason not to use molasses once they begin to flower? (I am aware that molasses can change your ph and am prepared to monitor and attend to that should that be the case)
- When is the best time to do some targeted defoliation on the autos? I am around two or three days away from the undergrowth branches coming out between nodes one and three being long enough to tie down to the sides of the pot. Should I tie down my branches and bend over my cola (I am already planning to do this with all the autos) and let that grow out a bit before any defoliation?
- Regarding positioning of the autos relative to the lights - once they are all in their final homes I will have nine three gallon pots. There is only one way to position them equally in the tent, as three rows of three. What that will create is a situation where the three that run in a line directly underneath and in line with the lights are going to get significantly superior light to those other two rows of three. Comparably speaking. I would like this to be even. So I was thinking that once every three or four days I could rotate the plants so that over the course of time they all get equal time under the lights in the middle. Does that make sense? Or would it be better to put my best three plants in the middle and let them go? Any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone has. I know that's a load.

Happy Growing! Imma go see my Kush Mints at 29.6% THC and get the photos day started.

Photoperiod: Day 33 Veg

Photoperiod Update on Day 33 is that the girls appear to have *finally* gotten over my perfect storm of topping, nute burn, and light burn all at basically the same time. Lol. I cost them a week of stunted growth easy. But now they are almost back to the green I want, and the initial and new growth is starting to move. As you can see in the pics I started LST on all these guys since we're still a few days away yet from a 24 hour pot drain and transplant. Being able to see the new growth inside is obviously a plus - if I can see it it's getting light. I tucked a bunch of leaves and tied the branches out using wooden skewers which work great when the plants are small. Opened up the middles. Time to get it into gear girls. That said, in a way the week or so of stunted growth may turn out to be a good thing. My idea from the get go is to try and keep the girls in veg for 60 days. If possible, without overgrowing the scrog screen. I was dubious. Tried it on my first grow and made it to 48 days. But now at day 33 I am starting to believe that in 27 days these guys should be filling out the screen pretty much right on time. We'll see. 60 days isn't a set in stone thing, just a goal. I believe the older the plant the better the buds, if for no other reason than older and way more well developed roots.

Enjoy! Hope everyone has a successful week of growing.

Also, a plug: if you guys happen across a strain called Blue Sunshine, I encourage you to check it out. It's a cross of Blue Dream and White Sunshine, and it's all of that. Especially if you like the terpene profile of Blue Dream, which most of us are familiar with. The White Sunshine adds a layer of sweetness and lemony-ness that exceeds the straight Blue Dream. I got mine at 25.6% THC. Current fave.

I can only offer what we do regarding LST. We start tying branches as soon as they can reach where we want to tie them down. If you wait too long, they'll get brittle and you have a higher chance of breaking branches off. We split our main trunk last round waiting too long.
