Jon's First Outdoor Grow: Sugar Breath Photoperiod & Strawberry Banana Autoflower

@NextLight Autoflower Update
Day 44
Sugar and Defoliation Day!!

These girls all needed haircuts badly. I was compromising a bunch of interior and lower growth. It's just the leaves on the Strawberry Bananas are so thick and greasy and they all have trichs on them. I didn't want to pull any but I was getting a bit concerned with bud rot on these girls, as they are WAY dense and indicas at that, and already bushy as hell especially the two that are the most indica phenos. And indeed I found a bunch of stuff, and some buds, under all that bushy growth that is now exposed, defoliated, and can actually see light and get air They'll be much happier and so will I.

Also a watering day, and today was a SugarDay for the girls. I give them Terpinator and molasses with clean water once a week. That was today. Sweeteners.

So on to auto porn:

How Do the Girls Look the Day After a Serious Defol?

Pineapple Upside Down Cake: Grow 35/Flower 1

Sent the PUC to flower this morning. She is now outside with the Raspberry Parfait. She was exactly 25" tall. This is the exact size the RP was when I put her out to flower. So the side by side picture of the two plants shows exactly how much the Raspberry Parfait has stretched in 9 days - the exact difference in height between the two plants. She is beginning to show preflowers and should start to show me some cotton balls in the next few days.

Here's what the PUC looks like as she goes into flower, chock full on her first application of @GeoFlora Nutrients Bloom nutes. First is the two plants side by side with their view, and second is a picture closeup of what hopefully are the first signs of the RP making buds.

GOOD FORTUNE SHONE ON ME TODAY
Serious Photographic Enhancement Coming Soon!!

Any of you guys use Cash App ever? I do. Have been for a while. And today they sent me via email a survey. If you took the survey, the reward was (supposedly) that you got to choose an item from a list that they'd give you for free you just have to pay the shipping. Well, I get these all the time, we all do probably. I usually delete them without opening them. But I never got one from Cash App before and for whatever reason I took the stupid 30 second survey. I never trust that any of these will actually provide the "reward" for taking the survey that they claim.

Guess what? I was wrong. At least about Cash App. Cuz they indeed did present me with a list of items from which to choose my "reward." And guess what I got?

This:

I already have the shipping info. It's on it's way. I paid $9.95 for shipping, that's it. They actually did it!!!

I am PSYCHED about this. Hope it works.
ADDENDUM: Well, I should have known. Kicking myself in the ass. Of COURSE there's a catch. And this on e is pretty damn scammy. So yes, they have already shipped this item at the $9.95 I paid for the shipping. BUT....yesterday my bank sends me an "is this fraud?" email about a mystery charge I just got for $49.95. I called the bank. It's from the company that sent the monocular. It's not for the item. It's for a signup fee, charged every six months, of $49.95 to the dumbass subscription consumer service this whole survey thing was a part of. What they don't tell you, except in the 4 pt type of the fine print at the end of the email that nobody reads and couldn't if they wanted to, is that this subscription comes with the item and the charge will happen. Typical.

So the bank gave me the company number and I called them. They tried 30, 40, and then 70% refund offers on me before I finally had enough and unloaded on them. Obviously only 100% refund is acceptable and they can stick the monocular up their arse's. But they wouldn't do it. So I disengaged, called my bank, initiated an investigation as required, suspended my card, and the bank has already given me my money back and is sending me my new card today.

I put this out there cuz I don't mind others potentially benefitting from seeing my stupidity.

Back to IPhone pics. Oh well.

Hey @StoneOtter, this one's for you. I'm putting you on the spot cuz I know you can handle it and cuz I'm hoping there's others like me on their first outdoor grow who might benefit from a quick Q and A between us. Cool?

So here's my thing:

There's a constant breeze where I live and where the plants are. No matter where I put them. It dies to basically nothing at night, but for 8 hours a day these guys are getting hammered with wind. Maybe not hammered, but hit hard enough that I *suspect* they are wasting energy that could be going to making buds on maintaining a posture against the wind. So my first question is, is that statement possible?

Then let's say it is and I don't want that, obviously. Well, short of breaking my stealth in a problematic way, I don't have any way to turn off the wind during the day. However, there is one option. There are a few places in the yard where I could put the photos outside and never have to move them. They'd be wind protected, and lights from houses at night protected. Here's the rub.....it's a shady spot for almost the entire day. Not super dark shady, but definitely not the direct sunlight I've been dragging them around to keep them under.

So the question is, do I save the wind burn and sacrifice some direct sunlight? Or is it better to anchor tough against the wind as best I can, and leave them in direct sun as long as possible each day. I mean, how much is a lot of wind consistently going to compromise my flowering? And no, building a wind screen around them is not an option, unfortunately. Too attention grabbing.

I know you dealt with some elements and such in your recent Stankberry grow. Any advice? Thank you!!!!!

:thanks:

Flower Day 12
@GeoFlora Nutrients Feeding Day Bloom Nutes plus my Supplemental Surprise

After 12 days and some significant stretch, it would appear we have budlets!! Yay!

Having never done this outdoors, I am flying blind in a lot of ways. One of those is having any experience watching how a plant buds out in nature. I had no idea how much, how long, etc, the stretch would be or when we'd see our first budlets. I also had a *little* trepidation about whether putting them outside in roughly 13/11 but maybe up to 14/10 depending on how they perceive light, would actually make them shift to flower. Despite that she vegged at 20/4. And despite that Sadie, my Jelly Rancher, vegged at 18/6, did just that, but she's my only proof and she had no controlled circumstances relative to outdoors. Not a solid reference point in my mind. So when I *thought* I started to see preflowers I got pretty psyched, but even then I just wasn't sure. Seems so different outside. But NOW - even I can't deny - we have buds and she knows she's in flower. This main central cola should get gigantic, right? Considering the plant gets zero training and this is just how she grows naturally, so Christmas tree with one main?

I see supporting buds somehow in my not terribly distant future. I'm already struggling a little bit because of the constant strong breeze from about 9 am to 6 pm every damn day. I will shore her up much more today than I already have now that I see we're actually going somewhere here. I have tons of strong, long, bamboo poles. They'll do the job.

So today she got her second application of GeoFlora Bloom nutes. I am giving 3/4 of a cup instead of 2/3, and I am feeding every 13 days instead of every 14. Today, as we have buds finally, I provided her a little early budding boost. So this is what I gave her:

3/4 cup top dress/amend GeoFlora Bloom
1 scoop Easy Weed Seaweed Supplement
1 scoop @Blue Planet Nutrients Calmag Pro Formula
1/4 tsp. Open Sesame from the Fox Farms nute line
1 tbsp. Terpinator

Obviously I top dressed the Geo and mixed the rest in a gallon of water, ph'ed to 6.3, and used that gallon to water her for the Geo feeding. We'll see how my instincts work out.

Here's some pics. Happy Saturday.

Damn I love growing weed.

Day 48

Here's Autotown continuing to love the spectrum of the 420h. These buds are getting very dense, especially the Strawberry Bananas, and frosty as hell too. The growth has been consistent and uninterrupted. They pray daily like it's Sunday every day. Not one has the slightest blemish. In my opinion, these plants are simply loving what the 420h has to offer. Maybe the best quantum board for a 4x4 space I've tried. Gets a little warm, as they do, but not the slightest issue in my circumstances. Love the whiteness of the spectrum. The dimmer works great, not that I ever use it. What's a dimmer exactly again? Lol. Very solidly built light. I can't wait to see how they finish. We should have around a month to go on these girls or so.

I see a picture of the month in there! Plants look great!

Side Addition
Blueberry photoperiod
Total Experiment
Update 1 of Infrequent Updates

I've had this single Blueberry feminized photo seed lying around a few months, wondering when to pop it. It's from a distributor who is unnamed at moderator request. I tried giving it away, and everyone I knew either had a Blueberry seed or didn't want it. So here's a little mini-project I'll add to the grow, but as the grow is already rather extensive involving lots of areas and such, I won't include it in the regular updates like all the others, just maybe every ten days or so I'll post something on it.

This is what I did:

- Filled a three gallon pot 80% with Mother Earth Coco/Perlite 70/30 blend
- Topped the other top 20% of the pot with Fox Farms Happy Frog, just like the top two inches.
- Poked a hole and made a little slurry in the hole from the soil, water, and Great White mycorrhizae.
- Dropped in the Blueberry seed.
- Covered it.
- Watered the top.

In other words, I tossed a seed in a pot of coco basically. A small pot at that. This is cuz I never used coco other than the two inch layer of it in the auto 7s that are seedlings. I have no idea how fast stuff will grow in it. And I don't really care a lick about the seed or what happens to it. So it seemed a logical way to both get rid of a seed that may turn out great, who knows, and also get at least a small thing going with coco. And see if a seed just tossed in soil will sprout for me for the second time as the just harvested Sour Apple did. The small pot is the other experimental part. I'm going to veg this plant (assuming the seed sprouts) in the @Mars Hydro rig under the FC-E6500 at 20/4 for about 30 days. Then I'm going to bud her outside as with the other photos, regardless of what size she is at 30 days. As the medium is entirely coco (past the top two inches) I will ph my water each time to 5.8 on @Bill284's advice. (Thanks Bill!) And we'll see how big a three gallon photo grown in coco and budded in nature will get. Also see how often I have to water. I expect if it sprouts that the plant will quickly outgrow the three, thus the short veg. Might also be a way to basically finish small but high yielding photos in the same 90 days I can finish an auto in, or a bit more however longer than 60 flower days they need. A three gallon photo in any soil is always going to beat a three gallon auto of the same strain grown in the same conditions, that's a hard fact, so I'm kind of envisioning SUPER SIZED auto yields from a three gallon outdoor photo sent to flower at day 31. I would think a QP should be possible under this scenario as described, anyone agree or I'm nuts? More? I have no clue what a coco three gallon photo is capable of. And I'm going to use Fox Farms nutes on this girl, according to the Fox Farms feeding schedule exactly. Which will actually work out nicely for a 30 day veg as the FF soil chart is set up to flip after week 4. I am assuming since I am using coco and will have to water MUCH more often, I will also be able to feed much more often. Isn't that part of the point of using coco in the first place? b I'm happy to hear anything anyone may have on that concept, if anyone's got some handy info?

If anyone has any advice, or commentary, or whatever, please fire away. Thanks.

Hey Jon,

Sounds like an interesting project. For the coco, Bill is the best source of info, but you'll be feeding everytime I believe, pH 5.8.

I think you should be able to get some wicked results, though I've no experience with coco or photo periods...yet.

Yup. Yeah, I initially was going 5.9 and Bill set me straight. I have a feeling there's a reason for 5.8 and that it would make a difference even if it was 5.9. I don't know either, but I take anything Bill's ever told me as gospel.

I'm also popping a Strawberry Lemonade photo (Barney's Farm) and growing it as big as I can in a one gallon starter pot with my Fox Farms soil blend. When it completely outgrows that pot at 20/4 in the Mars Hydro rig, I will transplant that one into a five of all coco/perlite. Then a couple days later I'll put it outside to bud. That way the roots will be taking off right as it begins to bud, and they'll have all that coco to play in. That, I think, will work out real nice.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYBODY!!!

Heck, it's Saturday night and it's almost Halloween. I don't have any orange and black buds to share, but I do have one picture that's at least a little in the Halloween vein. This is about a week ago, on one of the two blurples I use in conjunction with the @NextLight 420h to supply extra reds. A spider has taken up residence. In a few days I'll post an update photo on the spider and we'll see how he's doing. Sure picked a smart place to spin this web. Bugs galore up there from sundown til 2 am. He's gonna get FAT.

Happy All Hallow's Eve Eve.

Lol
