New Soil Blend Additions!!

I'm a dad again! @cjsbabygirl313, your namesake has broken ground! Yay! This girl popped out in 28 hours, she's raring to go! I started her in a one gallon pot.

I am going to use the Chocolope and this Apple Blossom as my test pilots for @Prescription Blend nutrients. They were nice enough to include a full set of their nutes in the GJOM prize pack, the least I can do is focus on them in the journal.

So I researched their feed chart, and it appears the seedling stage is optional pretty much. This works fine for me, as I normally don't begin feeding week 1 of a feed chart til I see two sets of leaves. The soil has everything the plant needs until then. So at that point we'll start week one of the PB feed chart. I will use it exactly as prescribed in the exact dosages prescribed. The soil is my Fox Farms blend of 40% Happy Frog/40% Ocean Forest/20% perlite #3. However, this time I will be adding, thanks to @Bill284, Bokashi and frass to my mixture. Never used either one before, but Bill swears by the stuff and that's good enough for me to give it a go. I'm using his suggested methodology on this soil prep and will post a series of pics when I prep the pots in case anyone is interested. I haven't decided yet if they're going into fives or sevens, it kind of depends on how much soil I have left when I prep their pots. But one or the other. They'll go the 20/4 route in veg with 10 hours sun/10 hours in the @Mars Hydro rig, as soon as they're big enough to withstand the breeze outside, then out to the yard permanently with the others to flower.

I am very excited to try these nutes after talking with several members who have had amazing results with them, and also psyched to be able to bring one more of our awesome sponsors into play on this grow.

Get ready for the fun to begin.
Don't be surprised to see a light layer of fungi on top of the soil.
Just means it's started working.
Woohoo.
Stay safe.

I was going to amend some of the bokashi and frass into the top couple inches of soil , per your suggestion, and water. Is there any reason to put a dusting of each in a layer lower in the pot?

When I do it in coco as you can see in my Gorilla Glue thread I layer the pots.
Perilite, Bk,Frass, micro, spray, then coco with it already growing it the coco for a couple weeks.
Then Perilite, Bk,Frass, mycorrhizae and spray then coco.
All the way up the pot.
Then some around the transplant, leaving it higher in the center so water goes to the outside.
So it's mixed into coco Perilite sprayed and let sit two weeks, then layered lightly in each pot.
If you fill the pot wit bk&fr roots will follow ,everywhere.
They will eat better grow faster and stay healthy.
I'll be a treat to watch.
Stay safe.

That's why I asked, cuz of the lack of coco. I can layer perlite, soil, bokashi, frass throughout as you just described though. Sounds like that's a lot better than letting it all work top down. That's what my instincts said anyway. Cool. Thanks!!!

I assume the "layers" of bokashi and frass are thin layers. NOT an inch thick. A GOOD DUSTING thick. Yes?

Yes just a light dusting and a little kelp water mist to activate.
The whole point is to bring to life every inch of you pot.
So it's more attractive for roots to penetrate everywhere in the pot.
Then the microbes and fungi feed your roots for you.
Keeping your ladies strong and healthy.
I'm not great with all the terminology to do a proper explanation.
Maby I'll pull a product review together and throw it on that thread.
Have you read any of it yet.hehe

Lol. I have I just wondered if things changed without the coco. I get the rest. I even have Kelp Me Kelp You, which I believe I can substitute for your kelp water mist to activate. It's part of the middle of the chart of the Fox Farms nutes, it's derived all from kelp, and it's listed as "seaweed plant food." Here's the skinny (see picture). Think I can use this to sub for your kelp spray? I don't see why not, it's innocuous enough. Thanks.

Yes that's perfect.
Any water will work to bring back life.
I just like the added benefits you get with kelp.
But b1 or any seaweed product will be beneficial.

Sometimes the Pictures Tell the Story.....

Seems like every time I try to make this point I get myself in hot water one way or another. The bullshit artists have done their work well. Now people take it easy on nutes with autos, don't up pot, don't top, and don't use big enough pots. Thank you cyberspace idiots. Correct, I am not mincing words by design.

Here you go. Draw your own conclusions:

1. Two identical Dos Si Dos Autoflowers, both trained the same way pretty much, both started the same day, both in flower, and both grown under 100% identical conditions. This is the two plants side by side. The 7 gallon plant is on the left, the 5 gallon plant on the right.
2-3: Stem comparison. Picture 2 is the 7 gallon stem, picture 3 is the five gallon stem.
4-5: Branch budding out comparison. Picture 4 is the 7 gallon branch, picture 5 is the 5 gallon branch.
6. Alternate angle. Again, the 7 on the left, the 5 on the right.

You tell me. I'm done proselytizing.

Partial Harvest Update
Strawberry Banana #1
Day 70

After looking closely at this plant today I decided to do a partial harvest. I've never done that, and would only do it if I felt it was absolutely necessary. In this case I did. There was a large bud cluster, in the interior growth, that was like one giant ball of buds crammed together. I had tried to separate it several times but it was just impossible. I had a dedicated fan on that plant just to try and mitigate the bud rot trap that was created by this growth. Up til today I thought I was okay. Today I saw weird browning and yellowing and knew I had to do it.

So I cut out the big cluster, and boy am I glad I did. I had just the tiniest touch - the very beginning - of bud rot starting. If I had left this as it was the entire plant could have been infected. I then wet trimmed all that and cut out any beginnings of rot, both on the trimmed off buds and on the plant itself. You can see in the pictures what I was left with in both cases.

The rest of the plant, now the three largest colas, and nicely separated, went back to finish a bit longer. The buds are drying. I probably trimmed off a couple grams worth of buds that had a bit of brown starting in them, including the leaves and such. On the plant itself, if you see the light green stuff on the bottom, that is where I was real careful to leave nothing that appeared bud rottish and leave everything nicely exposed. Should be fine now to finish.

What I took is incredibly sticky, incredibly stinky, very very dense, and is a bit early but should be a good comparison to the other finished buds when they're done. The fact that I had to do this confirmed further that the others are not ready yet despite how they appear.

Beware of very dense, tightly packed, indica-like buds in your plants - this can be a bud rot trap. I made a decent save here today.

Pictures:

1. This is the part that concerned me
2. What went back in to finish from one side
3. What went back in to finish from the other side, showing the lower light green stuff now bud rot free and exposed
4. Closeup of one of the pieces of bud that I took off
5. Here's what the total take off was after removing that little bit of brownish stuff and which is now drying after being wet trimmed

This was good and drying after cutting out the rot.jpg

EDIT: Yes, OF COURSE I took a few of the flarfy nugs and put them in the toaster oven just to get the very first taste of this weed. Yes, of course I knew it would be terrible and not tell me much. BUT - it told me exactly this much: the finished buds of this strain are going to be spectacular. No doubt about it. The toaster oven flarf got me very high.

Glad your going to use the prize pack, even better I get to see it here!

If your going to skip to the seedling feed please consider... the seedling mix on the chart is intended for plants with the second set of true leaves coming out so if your going to skip this feed step and go right to veg week 1 you might want to wait for a little more growth then 2 sets. Veg week 1 will be about 450ppm which is high for really small plants.

Ah, thank you. That clears things up. So the seedling first two weeks begin with second set of leaves. Got it. Thanks.
