Jewelers glass

I don't know much about jewelers glass to look at the buds real close. I bought an 60x-100x mini microscope and can't see a damn thing with it. Think I will go to a jewelry store and see what they say. If you have any input, I would like to hear it.:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Take a small piece of bud and lay it on a piece of paper. Place microscope flat on surface and turn on light. Start on lowest zoom and adjust focus until image is clear. Zoom in more if needed.

Unless you have a broken microscope, a jewellers loupe will be harder to see the trichromes than a microscope.

Hey Pete

The 60-100x scopes can take some time to get used to using. I find the best way for me is to hold the scope in my index finger and thumb of my left hand while using the other fingers to hold the bud in place. Then with my right hand, I use my thumb and index finger to rotate the focus knob. The field of view is quite small, even at 60x, so this helps me hold the scope steadier as I shake.

If inspecting a sugar leaf, pluck it, place it on a flat surface and hold the scope down and steady will adjusting the focus.

Because of the small field of vision, you have to be very steady, even a move of a mm or 1/32 of an inch will have you focusing on a different area

Hope this might help you some mate

Pete, I have a Carson MM-300 pocket microscope with LED, both above gave great answers. For me to dial it in, I place it on my kitchen counter and focus in on the grain in the granite. Once set, take it to the top of the flower and it should be right in focus on the trich's.

I use a loop for some stuff. It works great and is quite easy, but mine does not have as much magnification as the cheapo microscopes. Both are good tools to have around.

I have a tiny, folding 10 magnifying glass and that's enough to tell if the trichs are clear/cloudy/amber and I got 61 yo eyes. lol

I also have a small 30X lighted scope I got at Radio Shack 15 years ago and that's plenty to spot mites etc and get a closer look at trichs if I need to. Even at 30X you have to have a very steady hand to keep anything in focus so 60-100x is going to be a lot harder.

You just need more practice with the one you have.

Thanks for the reply and advice. As it turns out the glass I bought was broken. Because of your reply I think I'm going to get the 10X. I'm not to far behind you with the old eyes LOL. Thanks:thumb::thumb::thumb:
