I am moving to a new place and I am going to be starting my first grow. I am a perfectionist at heart and I want to do this as close to the right way the first time, and hopefully have it perfected by my second.

I've read a thousand posts on growing. I've read every grow journal. I've written down every piece of information I think will be important. However, I am going to be asking a lot of stuff over again. Just because I want to make sure I do this right the first time. So I am sorry if some of these questions have been answered before.

A few things I haven't decided upon. I haven't decided if I want to grow indoor organic, hydro, or organic-hydro. I will be purchasing all the equipment and supplies I need before I even start doing anything. My start date will be 4/20. Giving me enough time to buy everything, build everything, and learn as much as possible before I start. Right now I am leading towards straight hydro with either a drip\cola system or aeroponics.

This will be grown in a walk-in closet in an apartment. I am going to outfit the entire closet, maybe split it into 2 sections, just for growing. Who needs a closet for cloths! I haven't taken the exact dimensions of the closet yet (haven't moved in yet). I am guessing it is 5' by 7', maybe smaller.

My purpose is only for personal use for me and my roommate. We want to be able to grow enough weed to last us until the next harvest. We do smoke A LOT of weed though. We go through about 10 grams a week. How many plants should we grow to have enough weed, without growing to much. We want to use as little electric as possible, because we are in an apartment and we don't want anyone to have the slightest idea what we are doing! I know yields are strain dependant, but what's a good generalized number. I will be using only female seeds from a reputable seed bank, I haven't decided upon the strains yet.

How much electric will we be using for growing? How can we stop the electric company from having any suspicions what-so-ever? Would a small grow for me and my roommate even show up on the ricter scale? What about timers? When we go 12/12 should we rotate the power of something else to turn on, so the power company doesn't see a flowering schedule? What is the biggest light we can get before we start using up "noticable power consumption"?

What is the absolute best way to conceal all smell? Assuming I grow some of the skunkiest. If it costs me any less than what it would cost me to get bailed out of jail I will buy it! Since we are in an apartment and share our room (1000sqft) next to 3 other rooms I will be SUPER paranoid.

My main goal with this is to get the dankest trees possible. Keeping me and my friends high and never having to pay a dealer until I decide to stop growing. While at the same time keeping me 100% safe. The rules have already been set that neither of us will be allowed to have ANY friends over while we are growing. We don't want to take any chances. The only people who will know about this are me, him, and you! So shhhh ;)

I don't want to break my bank, but I will spend the extra $$ to have this come out dank as possible.

Last question for now. Am I crazy to even attempt a grow like this my first try? With the help of these forums, it think I can nail this. I've read some first attempt grow journals that have turned out AMAZING. I want my journal to be just as good.

If you're a regular 10 gram a week user, you'd be well served to do a perpetual harvest type technique in a SOG set-up. That way you're chopping down a plant or two every other week.

Basically a rule of thumb is 1000 watts per bedroom in the residence won't draw any attention. It might be a bit different in an apartment tho.

It tough to control it in an apartment set-up, because you are restricted on what you can do with the exhaust. I'd at a minimum use an Ion generator type air filter.

An apartment is a huge risk environment for a grow. remember...if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But then again if you're a Medi-pot user no one's gonna screw with a couple plants in the closet...unless your landlord's a total dick.
 
Nice to know. I'm going to try and get picks up of the closet, how I want to design it. etc...

I am going to start buying the parts this week. We are on the top story in our own corner. I have a ceiling fan in my bedroom. If I filter the air into my bedroom from the closet, and use my bedroom to get fresh air back. Could I avoid any smell that way?

I want to make the room the plants in pretty air tight, with 2 fans bringing in tons of fresh air and taking out all the old. I want to purify the air in the room the plants in, and use a carbon filter on the exhaust. Anything else I can add to that?

Few things I have decided upon since.
I'm going to do it hydro with nuts, an automated drip system and light system on timer. Going wtih one 400 HPS to start.

I want to pick a strain that will compliment the hydro very well (a white strain). Also a strain that flowers fast and has great yield. Anyone have luck with anyone in particular? I was reading up on ICE.

I am going to be making my grow as involved with the community as possible. I want to learn as much as possible.

I was reading about the sea of green. However, I need to get more experience before I try that setup. Maybe I will make that grow #2 sog, since by then I will have clones ready.
 
I think I will line the walls, floors, and ceiling with a clear plastic. Then put mylar over the plastic.

I am doing ebb and flow using my own setup. I think I am going to be bolder than originally planned and do two 400 watt floros. Grow about 9 plants in a very small space. I am going to rig up my own air-tight leak proof vent system. I am going to use about 5-6 air purifiers, freshners, cleaners. In each room exiting the closet I am going to put glade plugins and an air purifier in the hallway. Carbon filters on the exhaust, etc..

I am using them only because there actually store is a couple miles from here and I can drive there and pick my stuff up. Are there prices fair? Should I go elsewhere or shop online instead?

Things I am buying today:
Plywood to go over carpet,
Plastic coverings,
Vent Shafts,
Parts for my custom ebb & flow,
mylar,
fans (no filters yet),
Black tarp (used to seperate my closet into sections),
velcro (how I'm going to attach the tarp so its light proof but I can still get in and out),
Chain\Screws (stuff to support the hanging lights),
Power Ext Cables and surge protector.
 
I'm in the design phase. I have purchased the mylar and pump, baskets and misc stuff.

Question. Do Filters make the house smell like coal? Or a pungent odor just as pungent as marijuana? I read in a news article that a grow house smelt like charcoal and it smelt bad.
