Is alcohol extraction superior to oil infusion?

Hi,

We have a small harvest we want to use for pills for chronic pain.

I've been recommended several times to use alcohol extraction.

It is not clear however for me what would be the advantages over classical coconut oil infusion.

I understood that conservation was easier but oil conservation in the freezer works pretty well for us.

Are there other advantages?

Does it extracts more THC and CBD from the plant ?

Is it easier to do?

Is it less error prone?

It is less at risk to over-decarboxylate and produce CBN?

Or disavantages?

Is it more at risk to extract chlorophylle?

Etc.

Thanks for insights!

I have only done what I call my Cococanna oil - weed in coconut oil with some lecithin. I decarb in a toaster oven in mason jars and then grind with mortor and pestle until it is real fine, screen out the sticks etc. infuse the oil and if you think it will be strong enough just leave the dust in the oil. Or for that matter just fill 00 capsules with the dust. Filling capsules with the dust intact is a bit of a chore. Other than the straining out of the weed stuff, filling with a syringe is easier.

alcohol extraction strips more thc or cbd than coconut oil
Is it easier to do?
Depends on the type of oil you want to end up with (clean honey oil or green, black oil) & how much alcohol you want to reclaim
Helps if you live in a cold environment or have a big freezer
Is it more at risk to extract chlorophylle?
If you keep everything frozen & do quick washes you can avoid chlorophyl. Also, if you strain at freezing temps, you can remove plant waxes & lipids

Thanks a lot. Avoiding chlorophyll is indeed a serious pro.

Does coco oil catch chlorophyll, in the other hand?

yes coco oil will remove chlorophyll, also have to heat it
