Introduction & Announcement - DIY 730nm and a lot more

Lost In Nugs

Hello 420 Community,

after about 18 Month of learning how to cultivate i finally joined the club! :theband:

I have to add right upfront that english is not my native language and i don't need to use it during my daily routines at all. But i love the english language so much - and when it comes to my hobbies - i always try to learn it more and more due getting my online education in english all the way for my last projects. i guess alot of the good and sometimes proven info already available out there is mostly english, too.

I was born in Germany, but i'm living in another European Country i don't want to tell you at the moment because i am afraid of any consequences posting online about this kind of stuff. In Germany and almost any other country in Europe :yummy: is illegal and there is practically no professional research available to the public or any forums that convinced me to join in my native language. I think there is more myth and false info out there.

I am so blasted how the USA and other Countries are opening the borders for medicinal AND EVEN RECREATIONAL purposes. I am so glad for you guys to have the freedom to live your passion, it almost brings me to tears. Over here, even suffering from ADHD, Anxiety/minor Depression and chronic pain, i just can not do much about it to get healthy, clean, rich in flavour and resin plant matter. There are times we have to rely on expensive black market buds up to 15€/g for sometimes very bad quality. buds not properly dried and cured, residues on it, scrambled old nugz, sometimes even with diseases and mold. not healthy at all. and i realise many many people that smoke for years, even decades, dont realise what they are smoking time to time since it is an 99% illegal 'get you high' business with no public health agency cares spreading info about it.

So this is a lil tiny teaser about my situation and why my english might not is as good as yours and i might not get all of the stuff you may tell me :cheesygrinsmiley:

I just want so say 'high' to Icemud, Growmau5, Riddleme and all the other guys a cant remember. Since i have been reading on RIU, too, i am not quite shure if the last two of you were on 420magazine too, but just in case you guys will ever read this. thank you, you all inspired me to push the limits and learn more and more and more about cultivation and all the science behind it.

Thank you alot. Now i go back to :nomo:

planning a DIY COB + cut in half DIY spectrum on a Mars ll 700 on a 2x3 space + some additional blue 460nm at dawn and far red 730nm at dusk and a bit after their sun went out.

Since i think about a side by side with Nebula Clones to do the science we all want and need - i guess this is going to be thrilling.

So basically it is a 2x1,5 with 1x COB @3500k/50-80W and Half Mars ll 700@150W + 2x1,5 with same model COB, other half Mars ll 700 + the 10x blue @ dawn and 10x far red 5W Diodes @ dusk and 30 minutes after lights out in soil :woohoo:

A lot of reading, planning, screwing, soldering, and smoking freshly zipped atomical haze (boiled/washed :thumb:)

Maybe someone with a post count over 50 can send icemud the link of this thread via pm, he is doing experiments with 730nm too :-)

Have a good one!

re: Introduction & Announcement - DIY 730nm and a lot more

Thank you AngryBird. Since i dont have any useful data i dont want to spam his threads.

Hey Islandgrow, thank you for your words and subbing. I hope i could get this started until early 2017.
Because i have a ton of work and lack of money i am still in the middle of planning.

Today i finally decided on the COBs i will be using besides the mars 2.

Its going to be the Bridgelux Vero 29 Gen 7 (3500K) that peforms with 160 Lumens per Watt @79Watts. But i will only use about 50 to 60 Watts per Chip.

I will buy 2 of these new Generation Chips since they seem to outperform the Cree CXB3590.

So there is going to be 1 of these Badboys on each side of the tent besides the exact half of an 1 year old Mars II 700. The Story behind this is that after my last harvest and cleaning i noticed that 9 of the Blue 5W Epistar Diodes burnt on the Lenses. After some research and chatting with MarsHydro repair center i decided to add some more diodes to the warranty ones. So i just added additional 11 Blue with about 440nm and 11 Far Red with 730mm for 11USD. So in total now i will have

16x Yellow
44x Blue
88x Red
15x IR

After the package arrives from china in 2 or 3 weeks

Because i will cut the aluminum plate in half i will end up with 2 Stripes with 12x6inches and i have to redesign the spectrum to match the original one.

On the test side of the tent i will add these 10 blue that turn on at sunrise for 30 minutes per day. and the infrared will be on 30 minutes before main light shuts off and 30 more minutes whilst darkness. So i need to build 2 small LED Panels from scratch, too

Now i am still unsure if i should let the Mars as it is with permanent IR on on both sides or i should do it without IR at all on side A and minor IR as it is on the Mars 2 on side B. Or would you suggest to let the 2 permanent diodes for both sides?

Yeah. Since this project is pretty big for me, the COBs are DIY all the way and the soldering on the mars will take some time too it might take another month or two till i finally get it started.

Maybe i should start cloning right away and let them root with a 23w CFL for the next 2 Month.

I guess i will be using 2 clones per side in 4 Gallon Tekus and give them about 150W + dimmed 40W from start raise it slowly to 60 and maybe 80 for later budding on the 2x1,5 foot space.

What do you guys think about all this stuff?

Until then here are some shots of the Atomical Haze

re: Introduction & Announcement - DIY 730nm and a lot more

Last one is from today, the first two are at harvest. Boiled Roots on day 69, harvested on day 72 of flower. Then i washed them in a 4 step process, dried and put to brand knew mason jars with 62% humidipacks. I liked the buds harvested on day 60 a lilbit better. Much more soaring.

All under Mars II 700@300W

First of all it isn't spamming if you go to his journal and say : hi please help..
I like your light ideas and I most probably would start growing something until finished with the lights.:thumb:

re: Introduction & Announcement - DIY 730nm and a lot more

Maybe i will bump into his thread about far reds tomorrow after my night shift. I already have the Nebula going with a lot of stressfull training and topping. She is quite small but has some nice potential to get 8 to 10 clones already. I guess i will cut about 8 Clones off of her next week and put them in a big transparent bucket with a lid on it. Worked great with the Atomical Haze. Got 6 out of lucky 7 beautiful clones on my first try :-)

The rest of her i will keep in veg in the living room under the 23W Bulb and maybe scrog the shit out her till april and then remove the scrog and put her in wilds very flat. May be a free pounder in october 17, you never know.

re: Introduction & Announcement - DIY 730nm and a lot more

:-) yeah i dont have the room and money for a decent vegtent so i have to let it go slowly and stretchy until winter has passed. But i guess outdoors it will be ok when she is a littlebit stretched, she will have 3 to 4 month of vegetative growth to get strong and since i dont put any money into it no harm can be done.

I will try to get some better shots of my crop tomorrow. I realise the pictures do not show tastyness of this powerful 80% Sativa dominant strain called Atomical Haze from Paradise Seeds Amsterdam. It is a cross of Original Haze x Indian sativa x Afghani indica. harvested about 90 percent full cloudy trichs it gives me the boost like some adderall or something like that. Crazy daytime smoke that lifts you up in the mornings, even after several nightshifts. :-) NO Paranoia or Anxiety at all. If you harvest later it kind of takes the edge of the energy boost and is better for relaxing. But i guess you should chop before any amber to get the full potential out of this strain.

re: Introduction & Announcement - DIY 730nm and a lot more

Yeah i will get into that soon. First ever. Like promised i have some shots of my nuggets of the Atomical Haze. Because i washed them really good and were worries about mold i decided to cut the buds into small pieces before they went into the medium wide mouthed mason jars.

They are a bit leafy because i gave them nitrogen in flower and had to pluck off many leafes because of some horrendous neem leaf burn mid flower. I didnt wanted to trim them too tight and it is actually really tasty just the way it is

re: Introduction & Announcement - DIY 730nm and a lot more

Looks like a plat of muffins for breakfast :) only better:thumb:
Yeah it is a great breakfast, too. Completely no down pressure in the effects... Just ante up and really really mood enhancing. Smoke this after a rough night and you will find yourself in cleaning the house and getting stuff done a slightly different way. Dont need Citalopram and Ritalin any more for minor episodes of anxiety and depression and lack of concentration. Best strain till now. And it tastes really good too even feed till the very end with mineral fertilizer from Hesi Soil Line. Boiling did the job.

Playing some Battlefield 1 on the PS4 is more fun than ever .

Re: Introduction & Announcement - DIY 730nm and a lot more

I had some time today, so i went to the hardware store for some parts for my diy light.

This is the cooling part. Not even screwed together :-)
2,3 foot x 4,75 inch heatsink between two Aluminum L-Profiles with 5xF12 from Arctic

Needs to cool 100x5Watt HiLED from the Mars ll driven at 240 Watts and 2xVero 29@3500k with 79W driven at about 52 Watts each, so ~344W from the wall.

Re: Introduction & Announcement - DIY 730nm and a lot more

Alright, i will drop the scientific side by side due to lack of ressources and general interest.

I just go with one 'big' setup integrating my ideas with Blue and Far Red and compare it to my completed grows.

But first i will build a small stripe (5 lines with 10x 5 watt diodes, so about 23W off the wall for a 1x2 foot with 8 clones) with an 'all clone' spectrum (for faster root growth with only a minimum needed amount for 'photosynthesis') hopefully keeping the plants in the mode similar to a germinating seed BEFORE it gets the signal to grow upwards out of the soil. In theory this sounds super nice for faster and stronger rooting clones.

And oh shit i almost forgot. The days in the big tent are only 20 to 21 hours. :-)

I am not shure yet to start a journal because i am doing different stuff at same time.

Yea man, I am interested, keep em coming! I like it so far, good enough for 2x1 I think it is maybe a bit overkill, depends, are you gonna flower with it? I would like to watch that journal. I have something similar in mind for 3x4 and 450W. Cheers man! :Namaste:
