InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

Tuesday and the grey is back, so the two Brooklyn Sunrise autos are in the shed under the Mars, where I moved it yesterday so that I could do this last night:
The Oval of Brightness® returns, at least until I decide if I'm going to flip the Gold Leaf.

In another thread we were talking of the importance of showing our mistakes as well as our triumphs. This isn't a big mistake, but I wanted to mention that the AK was actually too damp to go into jars and probably could have used a few more days of hanging. Since that's not an option, I'm leaving them in the shed outside the Oval of Brightness® (so it's not too light) in box lids. The RH in the jars got into the mid-70s and that was worrisome for me.

Warts and all!

Layering the buds between layers of dry newspaper in the box tops can help reduce humidity & it also keeps them out of the light. Easy enough to replace the newspaper with some frequency as needed. The newspaper's a decent, but not harsh, desiccant. A buddy of mine always did that for a coupla days as the last step before putting buds into jars for curing & it always worked quite well & had no discernible adverse effect on cure/flavor.

I'm going to hide a quart jar from each plant from now on. Our growth/harvest has not yet met our use and sharing/trading so we've not cured anything longer than 4 weeks. I'm amazed at how quickly we went from conservative to "we've got sooooooo much weed there's no need to monitor":eek:o_O

It's really hard to wait that 2 month sweet spot before smoking it.

Yep. I had to do this like 4 times before mine dried out enough.

Never thought of using newpaper! They seemed much drier this morning so I jarred them again and I'll see where they are when I get home. It's tough to get down to 62% because the ambient RH here is usually higher than that. I read something about putting the A/C on in the car and leaving them in there for a while too :).

What you need is one big harvest to take the pressure off. Kharma should do that for you :thumb:

4 times? LOL!

Yes, after Kharma I will be able to relax again, but for right now, that blue amnesia's days are numbered. LOL

And yes I had to take the amnesia out 4 fricking times before it dried out enough. This last time though, it has been in the jars for a month and it is good now. Now if I could just save enough of it to age so I can give it a proper review.

Hi all, Shed...
Hope those buds are drying better for you! I have the same issue here with high ambient humidity. After the first plant had these issues I ended up using the dehumidifier in a small space and things went much better.., I guess that’s similar to the car idea! The paper bag technique between hanging and jar is something I plan to go back to trying as well. Should be better here next time though cause the ambient RH is lower in winter and spring here. During late summer early autumn it was never below 78% and usually in the mid 80s o_O

@Amy Gardner is putting together a closet grow as I recall so I'm sure she'll have thoughts for you!
many thoughts! But no actual experience as yet
Amy, would you tag me in your closet grow journal? I tried looking for it but not having luck
Hi Thunder, stop looking! It doesn’t exist yet ;)
And I’m going to be embarking on the same challenge. Indoor growing is not something I’ve really done before (once, an auto and it was very medium in result!). I have some practice at training techniques but this next grow will really put them to the test. I’m only just now gearing up to finish making the DIY tiny closet light proof, add some air exchange to it AND finish building my new QB light! I hope to be dropping my seed with the new moon in July. By then, I expect I’ll have plenty to learn from what you’re already doing!

I’ll say one thing I am doing in advance tho and that’s reading nebula haze again, on grow weed “without difficulty” dot com, about training. And anything else I can find too and then hope/expect that it all is imbibed via osmosis and manifests successfully as I find my own way with it. That’s the (non)plan anyway...:yummy:

Thanks Amy! I'm pretty sure we can send folks to Grow Weed Easy - Learn How to Grow Cannabis with Simple Tutorials without a handslap. They don't sell seeds or lights or anything that our sponsors would object to.

I have a small dehumidifier but it runs pretty warm. I have put it in a copy paper box with a few jars, but if I do it with the AK I'll have to do 4 at a time to keep the jar temps down.

Looking forward to the rest of the grow closet. Your diagrams looked very well done!

Oh, and @GreenThunder ! Recently Duggan posted an excellent thing for me - xomlimig some of his work training. I’ll come back with the link...

Yeah, here it is. Really awesome - heaps of pictures followed by a great description of techniques. His results are spectacular (POTM recently too). Duggan’s were some of the first journals I followed here :thumb:

It's really hard to wait that 2 month sweet spot before smoking it.

Yes it is... but that's not to say it's not been darn good smoke! It's been so tasty and stoney sometimes it makes me wonder how it could get any better. That's why I want to hide a bit each time, to see how much better it can be.... and maybe convince hubby to wait - though not likely when we're both out and short of funds (no sense waiting, is his moto)

The oval is looking great shed. Maybe a little vacant dare I say?

Anywho I do cardboard boxes for my drying. Lots get hung many get laid out and rotated daily! Cardboard is the dryer's best friend as it will wick moisture up... but then again I had to enclose the tub with cardboard so maybe I'm biased?!

It's so ironic how buds ripen for those who smoke them and spoil for those who concentrate them. All I can say is I'm glad I dont have to wait to enjoy my hard work.... I do still like to smoke a bowl on occasion and revel in the smell and taste of properly cured buds! But am really just thankful that my preferred method of smoking requires no wait time.

Hope your day gets a little brighter for you this hump day mr shed. Be well bud

Thank you kind sir. Sun was scheduled to come out around noon today (it was close to accurate) so everyone is outside today.

That Mars 300 is a pretty small light! I'm relying on the shiny surface to make up the difference so I don't think I could add any more plants in that oval. When the HazeX gets up-potted it won't fit until the Auto Masszar gets harvested.

Speaking of which, that is going to be a staggered harvest for sure. It was throwing off new growth even as the early buds were packing on the trichomes.

Yeah. I was reading that autos never really stop growing. Pretty sure it was your post I was reading lol. I know theres no room but it's the babies big pots hogging all the space. Soon it will be nice and full. Are you going to finish all the autos outside?
