Hey there everyone. This is my first post on the forum and I'd love some more experienced opinions on my situation.
I've recently been written a Lexapro prescription by my psychiatrist to combat depression that runs in the family. It has worked fantastically to improve my mood, but it's taking a toll on my body. Ever since I began taking the medication it's been near impossible to get a good night's sleep. Usually I'll lay in bed for hours before falling asleep and when I do I often wake every few hours. (currently getting about 4-5 hours of sleep as a college student)
My first reaction was to change medications, but I've been told Lexapro actually has the least side effects in addition to being the easiest for the body to handle. ( My dad's side of the family has a huge disposition to liver and kidney problems ) As such, I'm pretty much left to prioritize my problems. Restless nights are much easier to deal with than heavy depression or potential kidney/liver disease later in life.
My question to all of you is this:
Would you recommend medical marijuana as a supplement or replacement for these conditions?
I've heard of marijuana being used for insomnia, but I'm not sure if it's also suggested for effectively treating depression.
If so, would my current prescription for anti-depressants be enough documentation to take with to get a referral?
