Inquiry of use of LED light bulbs

While I have enough compact flourecent lights, as well as a grow light specifically designed for plants, I am curious as to the effectiveness of the replacement LED lightbulbs instead of CF bulbs. They have similar color ranges, and for the same 11 watts a 40 watt CF bulb runs, I can milk out a 60-80w equivalent LED bulb.

Since I'm getting these LED bulbs for the house anyways, it's not a waste of money for my to buy a few to test.

Are you referring to the L.E.D. bulbs you screw into a light socket? If so they are not designed to grow plants as far as I know.

Yes, I am refering to the screw in types, as they seem to put out a similar spectrum of light, from what I can gather, form the normal CF's.

You may want to search for information on weather or not it is the same spectrum before wasting money on them in-case they are not, or if they lack the PAR or umole ratings needed by plants.

Well, since I ma using them for household to replace CFL's, it's a win win. Either they'll work well and make for cheaper grow electric bills, or it won't, and I'll have to use the CFL's currently sitting in reserve. Either way, it's a winner winner
