A new company is looking to open a medical marijuana dispensary in St. Charles some time within the next two weeks.

Healthway Services of West Illinois is awaiting a final inspection of its facility at 4714 Illinois Ave. in St. Charles, the final step before the state awards the company its dispensary license. Dmitrey Stebley, one of three owners of Healthway Services, said he is hoping that happens by Monday or Tuesday.

"We have sent (the state) a letter that we are ready for final inspection," Stebley said Friday. "We are still in the process, and they will let us know."

The company was awarded one of nine dispensary licenses statewide, and one of five in the Chicago area, earlier this year.

Healthway Services would be the second dispensary to open in the Fox Valley. PharmaCannis opened a dispensary on Route 31 in North Aurora in early November.

Unlike PharmaCannis, Healthway Services does not have its own cultivation center. Stebley said it has a relationship with two cultivation centers in central Illinois for its product, and will have that product available when it opens.

"As soon as we get the actual license, we can open the next day, the next hour," he said.

Stebley is a former practicing doctor who got involved with the drive to make medical marijuana available when he saw his wife suffering with breast cancer 14 years ago. She has since recovered.

He has two other partners, one of whom has experience running a medical marijuana facility in Seattle. Healthway Services also got the benefit of experience from Real Restoration, a Chicago-based restoration and construction company, which designed and built the St. Charles facility.

Morris Gershengorin, Real Restoration founder and CEO, consulted on the construction of medical marijuana cultivation centers and dispensaries in Colorado, according to a company press release. Company officials said they were able to make sure local and state codes were met, as well as design standards and security requirements.

"With close to 2,500 square feet of retail space, the building is designed to provide a safe environment while fulfilling patient demand," the press release said.

Stebley said he hopes to have a ribbon-cutting for the facility when it gets the final license.
