Moving forward, medical marijuana users may be able to get their new medicine soon right here in the capital city.

Health Central was recently granted a state license to dispense the product, and said the sale of marijuana could start as soon as November or December here in Springfield.

A Health Central spokesperson says once operational, each site could employ nearly 30 full time workers and serve about 2,500 customers per month.

However, Health Central still needs to satisfy regulators and work with marijuana cultivators before the company can be open.

"We don't know what the influx of the number of people is going to be. Hopefully it's good with respect to the program. but I would say including in security, you're going to want to make sure that the education is good. You're going to want to make sure that the customer relationships are good," said Chris Stone.

Even though only 2,000 approved medical marijuana patients have paid to register for the program statewide, rather than the thousands of patients originally forecasted, Stone said more patients will get involved once product begins to be sold.

Some doctors have been skeptical and reluctant to support the program, but Stone things that situation will change as well.
