HPS veg-flower

My question is is it alright to use a HPS lamp from veg through flower as I cannot afford to purchase a MH lamp as well at this time. Also when i do purchase a MH lamp is there any serious problems using a HPS ballast with that type of light.

Yes, you can veg and flower with an HPS. I'm unsure on the ballast question though.

Unless your ballast is rated for HPS and MH bulbs you cannot use it to run both lamps. Electronic ballasts usually are rated for both while magnetic are not. If your ballast is not rated for both you can buy a conversion bulb that will allow you to run a MH in your HPS ballast.

I use HPS bulbs during veg and flower. I use Eye Hortilux HPS bulbs. They're better then your average hps bulb IMO. They have a slight blue spectrum as well, which is good for vegging. They cost a little more but worth it IMO.

wicked thanks a lot for your help when I turned on my hps bulb and let it run for a while the very end went really dark sortave metallicy. It also smelt a bit like burning but only for a few seconds is this ok.

If the bulb is new, this can be quite normal.
