How trustworthy are reviews on buying seeds?

Are reviews something good to go on when buying seeds online? whether about the company or the reviews they have on the seeds?
@hogarth , welcome to the gang.

That question can probably generate several answers, my opinion is that it's on the true side, but remember that these statics are most likely generated from indoor growing, under ideal conditions and managed by professional growers.

Obviously, if you fall into that group of growers, than go for it, otherwise it's a good goal to shoot for.

Take care my compadre and looking forward to your continued posts.

Welcome to the party! Some things I take with a grain of salt, like flowering time, THC content, and yield, there's just too many variables and the sellers are going to base their descriptions on best case scenarios. Overall, though, they are pretty accurate with things like genetics, Indica/Sativa dominance, growth patterns, size, etc. Check out actual 420 Mag reviews by our members, that should give you a point of reference to compare. Hey @hogarth and welcome to the forum!

I'll take a crack at "the company". In my case I learned the hard way about one particular company, and I don't buy from them anymore. I caught them selling seed that wasn't what they advertised it was, and also found autos in photo seed that I ordered. Plus, their customer service sucked. If you want to know the name, I can PM it to you. One resource to check the reputation of companies is the BBB.

So far, I've had good luck with True North and Hembra (now called Gaslamp). I also placed an order with Coffee Shop. Both True North and Coffee Shop are sponsors of this forum.

happy growing! 🪴

you can always check with the growers here. look at the journals to see what folk currently like here.

most plant descriptions are given under perfect conditions and grown by professionals. it's best to take it as a best case scenario only, home growers rarely reach the same levels. it is possible to exceed them in some rare cases as your growing technique improves.

In today's online world.. its honestly hard to put trust into either. There are entire firms built around website reviews... who remove, post and analyze reviews to get the best rating for the hiring company.

With genetics, unless you are going breeder direct, In my opinion, you never really know what you are getting, and even with that being said, some breeders are scammers themselves.

Its best to go directly to breeders who are very well known for their detail and quality, who can trace seed genetics and lineage back to where it came from and who truly have a name, not by their own marketing, but by others vouching for their legitimacy. There are a few out there, but unfortunately it would be against forum rules to post them, but they are out there with some clever CSI work. :)

Best suggestion is to network with other growers/breeders who you admire or who have genetics that have proven themselves in actual real world grow situations and either work out deals with them, or find out where they sourced their genetics. Seek out the actual breeder who created certain strains is really the best route. Most are surprisingly open to helping fellow growers out...
