How to deal with the smell while in an apartment

Got a question... is there a smell when the plants are flowering? At what point do the plants smell? Got a closet in a room I don't use..but I live in an apartment. I was wondering if the smell would leach out the room. had in mind of starting the seeds in soil ( carmelicious and white widow) but my only real concern was the smell. Can someone give me some background on this?

I grew in an apartment before and yes the smell was a worry towards the middle to end of flowering. This is what I used to kill the smell and it worked great!

There is a product called Natural Magic oder absorbing gel. I placed them at all exhaust fan areas and let the fan blow right over the top fo the gel container. Basically I had 2 of them in my room and it killed almost all of the smell.

Then in the hallway outside of the room where my closet was I got one of those auto spraying glade air wicks and set it on a 30 minute timer. Any remaining smell was hidden. This system worked so well that I could leave my bedroom door open all day long and the smell wouldn't come out to the living room much less the outerhallway of the apartment complex.

If you can't afford carbon scrubbers the natural magic gel is godly and works very well. You can pick the gel up at home depot. They keep it in the cleaning supplies section.

Anyways hope this helps. :peacetwo:

Smell varies strain to strain in veg and flower some are more fragrant than others. Typically there is not much of a smell in the vegetative stage and like no smell with young marijuana plants from seed. After 1 week in 12/12 you need to start worrying about that smell. The smell will leach out of the room it's a matter of how much, do your best to seal it up to prevent smell, bugs, and temp fluctuations. If you got the money run a carbon filter in your room. Heard ona gel works good too don't know if that's the same that's being talked about. Febreeze is good to have on hand along with things that aromiate for surrounding areas other than the growroom. Sharper Image Ionic Breeze's work alright too run one in my bedroom takes a dent out of the skunk. :surf:

TY both for the suggestion..I'll work with the gel for now. $57.17 at the home depot..if it starts to be a problem I'll get that carbon filter. I'm on the top floor of a 3 story apartment. The blinds stay closed in that room anyway. was worried about the smell flowing into the hallway if I have company..probably have to not have anyone around for3-4 months just to be safe. Does the smell stay in the room after the harvest?

Harvest is some of the smelliest times... It will stay in the room the same as a plant ful flowering smell wise. Have a heavy hand cleaner before you exit that room you will be STANKY. Keep using the ona gel and carbon filter where you harvest. Run fresheners in your house or candles, something like that. :thumb:

As everyone else said, smell just depends on the plant. Some of my friends would only be smelly once you get near the plant, and sometimes it stunk up the whole room! It also depends on how many plants you have at once as well. But looking around after reading you thread I found this:

Sorry I couldn't use the link version so all you had to do was click on it. For some reason, the link wouldn't work every time I tried submitting it. :S

Wonder if it works well? :hookah:

In europe we all use a carbon filter... its the most easy thing to do. Just get a tubefan and a matching filter. Tubefan should not be stronger than filter...

Example: I use a 500/160m^3 tubefan with a 350m^3 filter. Tubefan runs on 160m^3. I have no smell and a 600W HPS lamp. Temp is at max 28°C on hot days.

There are a few threads here on building a carbon filter. Price seems like it would be comparable to Ona gel depending on what kind of deal you can find on carbon (and if you have to have it shipped).

I've grown in a reasonably weather-tight house before and been hit with the smell before I turned into the driveway, lol. Depending on the strain, amount of plants, temperatures, et cetera (as others have mentioned), you might get by with minimal effort - or you might end up with every resident in the building knowing what you are doing. So don't skimp on the odor-protection just in case (and for future considerations).

Some strains are smelly but don't necessarily scream "cannabis" (or at least not to those who aren't experienced). Avoid strains that smell like a skunk. At least one type of Northern Lights was a low-odor strain. There are others.

Good luck and may your neighbors and their visitors never get a whiff of what you are doing. Definitely don't want to come home to see LEO raiding your apartment - or to see your door kicked in and your plants ripped.

Do appreciate the tips but one person told me wrong if they do smell. Am planning a veg/flower/catnip garden in my house with hopefully one plant. Now if the window is part open, Im in a house will others smell it outside? Am new and go to the doctors tomorrow to get a license, thanks
