How much time between milky white tricomes and amber ones?

I am trying to figure out when to stop nutrients for harvest time. I have milky white tricomes, but I am unsure how long it will be before it's time to harvest, so not sure when to pull the nutrients. Can you help?

Hi PinkeyGreen.

Welcome to the site and community of members that gathers here.

I look forward to others thoughts on this, but the whole "stopping nutes/flushing" topic is kind of a personal preference/practice thing. Some growers swear you must, some think it's a wasted opportunity to encourage the plants final phase of growth and robs them of their full potential. Even the growers that swear you must will often concede that it's less important at the least and often unnecessary if growing with organic nutrients.

It appears you may growing in topsoil with sphagnum rings covering your pots - correct? Can you give us a clue as to whether your using organic or chemical nutrients?

I think it would also be helpful to those wishing to offer suggestions to learn what kind of buzz your looking for from your girls as many on the site will use magnification of trichomes to evaluate their color and judge harvest time. For a more cerebral "head high" with some uplifting qualities growers will suggest harvesting with more cloudy/milky trichome color, and for a more "stoned/couch lock" buzz wait for more amber colored trichomes.

From my very limited experience, the last couple of weeks seemed to drag on forever. I would think I was a week to 10 days out and 5 or 6 days later I would still think I was at least a week to 10 days out.

Based on just the photos and having no idea what kind of high your looking for, I'd like to suggest you have at least 3 more weeks. I believe your buds will continue to swell and more of the pistils will turn red/brownish and shrivel a little.

Again, welcome to the community and happy growing!

That 's great information TanR, thanks so much.
I am growing in Fox Farm organic soil (I have a layer of sand on top), and I am using General Organics, and Beasti Bloomz, every other watering.
I enjoy both sativas and indicas :-)
3 weeks more it is! Thanks so much!!!

Hi again PinkyGreen.

Just popped back by to offer that many of the members (myself included) use some form of magnification to examine the trichomes color. A really affordable handheld 60x-100x magnifier/microscope can be found at Radio Shack (if you in the US) for about $12.00. Check online as not every store will carry them. I have two close by and only 1 had the scope.

Be well!

For curing, I used quart mason jars. These allowed me to put 1 oz. per jar without having to squish the buds together. Once their cured I plan to get one of those vacuum sealer devices (like you use with bags) that has a jar attachment, vacuum the air out and put them in the freezer for longer term storage.
