How long will harvest last?

:bong: Before I start to try and grow, ive read up a little on how to grow(cant wait to get started). in all the books and videos ive read, ive never had this question answered maybe one of the wise people in here can help-here goes, just to make long story short, if a person had a lot of excess weed left over from growing, what would be the best way for that person to store it for a later use(maybe way later)? what is the best way to keep it the freshest the longest and part 2 how long would that method last. no matter how hard it would be plese send all ideas no matter how far out there. light it up420:cool:

I have heard if you store weed in the freezer it can last a year or 2. I am trying to think of the other way I heard to store it let me think for a mintue and get back to you.

Maybe GS is way is what I was thinknig. I always store my herb in mason jars if I have alot and in a cubby hole but they never last a lnog time seeeign as I'm a heavy smoker.

:cheesygrinsmiley: hanks everyone for the input- both seem like good ideas- what if a person combines both ideas- mason jar(airtight)while in a freezer, any thoughts thanks:adore:

Freezing weed ruins it, imo.
The buds contain moisture. When you freeze water what happens? It expands.
When you freeze weed, the moisture in each plant cell expands, rupturing the cells and degrading taste.
Also, freezing pot makes the bud hairs brittle and they more easily detach.

After curing, I keep my buds in the same container I cured them in (1-gal. food grade plastic) in a cool DARK place.
I store my buds moist like a fine cigar. I open the jars about 1 or 2 times/month just to be absolutely sure the buds aren't getting moldy.
Stored properly, weed will keep for years.

I've been freezing bud for a while now, even when I just bought from others. It keeps for a long time and doesn't seem like there's a loss in potency. But it does seem to rob it of that pungent smell it has when you first get it or pull it from the curing jar. So, I wouldn't be surprised to find the taste somewhat degraded.

Thanks for all the input, I now focus my efforts to security for growing(not to get caught). Any input is welcome, my main concern is air flow-in and out. I thought I would totally airtight the room and have a good inlet and outlet, what my worry is(worst case)i dont know what makes smells and who could smell it, could dogs and what of people and where could the outlet go, the roof, underground 200ft from house anything to minimize gettin caught. I plan to grow 75 to 100plants 4 months of the year and smoke off the excess for the rest of the year. i think the plan is sound maybe need some fine tuning later down the road. And what of helicoppers, I heard the fly around and see something about the heat weed lets out, any input on any of these thins are welcome. thanks ya'all:headbanger: :smokin:

Whoa there pardner.
To use an old-timey phrase, you're putting the cart before the horse.
You should have at least 4 or 5 sucessfull harvests mbefore thinking big (75--100 plants). There's lots to learn, things that only experience can teach you. Even the best advice in the world won't help you as much as expeience.

Secondly, 75-100 plants is a commercial grow, no matter how many times a year you do it. That mean severe penalties if you get caught (and there's LOTS of ways to get caught).
You'd need at least 3,200 watts of HPS, and that may raise suspicions from the utility as well as infa-red survielence (which reveals exessive heat from grow lights). And you'd need at least 200 sq/ft of growing space.

My suggestion: grow small at first. Think about the big grows for later.

ok ranger, im listening. The reason im trying to do a lot of research is im fixin to buy some land and nice new doublewide, i planned to set me a basement in and block it up and then block some more for a secret room no one will no of but me and my wife. the advice you gave was great, i do not plan to sell none, just for use for me and the wife. If we say for example we smoke up
1oz a week how many plants do u think ill be safe with. chances r ill have some left over but that would be worst case. so calculating harvest time(average)and all the other stuff i dont even know about, what would be the best way to go for me. ive bought some books and a couple of dvd's that are pretty good, but like you said there is no sub for experience. thanks for the input and have a goodin' c-ya:cheesygrinsmiley:

imo freezing is fine, you should be curing and drying your buds b4 storing so chances of this ^ is slim. and you can always take the fallen off hairs and put them in your joint or bowl so no loss there. i've bought weed and stored it in the freezer while on vacation, and come back to the same great weed i left.

I can't see any reason to freeze weed.
Marijuana should be stored when the buds are still a bit moist--they keep getting better and better (dry weed doesn't).
Marijuana keeps just as well stored in a cool dark place.

yup, store bud in mason jars..i have a vacume jar sealer, and when i pop the jars opened the smell is like the first day i put the bud in..and when i crush the bud to roll a joint...the aroma is intoxicating....the smoke is so smooth...Just besure the buds are dry before storing in mason jars......

I'm just going from personal experience, having smoked weed that had been frozen and weed that had been stored in a cool dark place.
And I know that water expands when frozen.

but is therer really enough moistness left in the buds to do any damage
Depends on how much moisture is in the buds when placed in the freezer.
I like to store my weed when it is still pliable, NEVER crispy dry. Crispy dry weed loses trike's like crazy and burns harsh and hot.
Like I said earlier, I see no advantage of storing pot in a freezer. Properly dried and cured pot can be stored practically anywhere; it certainly doesn't need to be frozen.
I know several people who keep pot tightly sealed in a fridge, which of course is different and doesn't, imo, harm weed.
But it doesn't need refrigeration--or freezing.

wowi only have like 12 plants in flower and 5 in veg and 3 mothers, 3 rooms i clone every 3-4 weeks 4@ a time and haveit now that i havest 1-2 plants a week, with about 2 onces on hand at any given time, i smoke/share hlf to an once per week if clones seem slow i launch my " pinch stash" seeds i have saved over time soak em and flower them soon as ther are 4 leaves to fill in the gaps, i think if you had 75 plants you could get it to were you were getting about 2 ounces a week...lol i say get you a room setup and get some started clone make mothers and go forom there, you gto alot to fiddle fart around withbefore taking on a fooking forest... bst of luck to you!!!!
