How do you know when to start the FINAL FLUSH?

I had this question presented to me today by a legal MMJ patient friend of mine. He is doing his first grow and asked me.

"I know when I should harvest. But how do I know when to start the final flush on soil?"

He is growing a couple of Serious Seeds AK-47's and one Barney's Farm G13 Haze. His ladies are about to start their 5th week of flowering (day 35 today) and they drink about one gallon of water once every 3 to 4 days.

I looked on the Serious Seeds web site and it states that AK-47 is ready in 53 to 63 days. He has 2 of those, one seems like a Sativa phenotype and the other seems more like an Indica phenotype. From the looks of them I'd say the Indica is likely to be ready first due to the higher trichome density. However, it's tough to tell when to start flushing from a distance.

Barney's Farm says their G13 Haze needs 70 to 80 days! OK. better be good stuff!

I believe most folks agree that 2 weeks of flushing before harvest is best. So the question is this. Is there a way to know (or at least ballpark) when to start the final flush when you are growing in soil so that by the time of harvest you will have been flushing with plain water for 2 or so weeks?

About my friend's modest grow:

Planters: Smart Pot - 5 gal. (all three)
Medium: Fox Farm Ocean Forest + 35% Perlite (all three)
Nutes: At this stage, Jamaican/Indonesian Bat Guano and Botanicare Sweet or AN CarboLoad only. Nothing else. They got a very well rounded diet when they were younger.

Any advise appreciated.

In soil I'd add a week to the days claimed by the seed co. 63 = 73 If you stayed fairly organic in feed, flushing in last week is plenty. Back to when, you can also figure about 10 days from the start of the swelling she be ripe....if you supercrop or have slight problems along the way it also will push back ripening..

Thanks Dr. FankenKush!

There are three ladies:

The Sativa AK-47: Grown naturally (no training, no topping, etc.) She got a mix of chemical nutes. (AN Connoisseur in soil) and organics (bat guano, PBP, etc.) She has the deepest green of all. While her flowers are somewhat airy, they are larger than the rest and none of her leaves display lack of N.

The Indica AK-47: Was trained 90 degrees during early veg. This caused lower branches to develop very well. It still has a "main bud" but the other colas are all somewhat even in height. She has been fed strictly organic diet all through. Bat guano, pureblend pro, etc. She has the lightest green of all with some older fan leaves already displaying N deficiency which is typical for this stage. She also has the highest density of trichome production.

The G13 Haze: This one has had a mix of organics and chemicals throughout. She was topped and trained during early veg. She has a shine to her that is unique, like shiny lizard skin. A deep, yet glimmering green. None of her leaves display N deficiency either.

All three ladies began flowering at the same time and are on day 35.

As I write this, it occurs to me that the ones with the deeper shades of green may need a little more flushing (or is that just misguided inexperience talking?)

Ahh.. the things you don't think of are the ones that git-cha!

With organics there is no need or reason to flush.

Just discontinue any chems a couple weeks before harvest and regular waterings will leach them out. The organics are part of the soil and aren't going to flush out anyway.

But, if it makes you feel better, flush away.

No flushing needed for organics. .. only chemicals.

OK, Roger that.

Thanks Droopy!
