How do I get a license?
This is how I attained my medical license. I live in California in the bay area. Firstly, I contacted MediCann by calling their 1-800 number off of their website (MediCann Home) I think they only serve northern California, but I'm not sure.
I reached a live operator who gave me a "doctor's appointment" and gave me directions to a discrete medical office.
When I got there, I was told the price was $100 even, in cash, no check or credit. I had the money and was all prepared. Next they had me fill out a lot of checklists and medical history sheets and stuff...
Then I saw the "doctor" Haha... This is funny. I go into the room with the "physician" only to find out that the the licenses have all already been signed by the M.D. and just need initialing from a PA (physician's assistant). Note: A PA is a nurse who has been given licensing to prescribe drugs. Generally, they are people who couldn't quite make it through medical school and had to settle for "physician's assistant" with prescribing ability instead of "doctor." I have been told it can be personally demeaning to some PAs to be told what to do by a head doctor.
Anyway, there was no doctor in the office. Just the stack of signed licenses and the PA. The PA didn't ask for any paper work on my illness, but I shoved it under her nose anyway feeling like I wanted to be a legal and legitimate person throughout the process. The paper I brought had my diagnosis written down by an M.D. along with "chronic, severe, permanent," a list of my limitations and then his signature. It was a copy of a paper used to get disability at the local community college.
So, she kind of glances at it and immediately writes my name down on the sheet signed by the doctor, writes a few lines of bullshit (nausea, problems eating? I don't remember saying that was my problem...) and then she initialed it and it was stamped. I paid the $100 in cash there and got a piece of paper with an M.D.'s signature on it (the one that the PA had signed) to take with me.
What about the green card itself?
I was then told that carrying around the paper is not practical and that in order for it to be legal for me, I had to do more than just get the paper. Next I had to take the paper to county officials who logged me in as a registered medicinal marijuana user. They took my picture and gave me an ID card. Contrary to popular slang, the "green card" is actually white, lol. Getting the card and the picture all together only took a matter of minutes, but it cost another $45 in cash.
After that, I was told I was good to go. In my county I can have up to 99 plants and/or unlimited pounds on my person or in my home. I live in Santa Cruz County, quite near Humboldt.
So where are the clubs and how much do they charge?
The club I'm familiar with is in San Francisco. There are several there. It's about an hour and 45 minute drive so I don't go all that often. They are discretely hidden and you must knock on basically a blank door in a building, and someone will look through a peep hole. If you aren't the police, who frequently raid on the basis of federal crime as opposed to state crime, they ask to see your license. You show them your card or your paper... Either works in this situation and they let you in.
Inside, there are jars and jars and jars of different kinds of buds. There is a section under lighting that has saplings you can buy. There is a fridge with brownies and other edibles. You can also buy pre-rolled joints and hash oil. Here is the typical pricing...
Typical pot - $45-55 for 1/8
REALLY chronic pot - $55-65 for 1/8
Brownies - $5 each, you need to eat about three to get stoned if you're a hardcore stoner
Saplings - $10-$15
Pre-rolled joints - $10
Hash oil/rock - $50 (it comes in a crystalized form that burns into oil on contact with flame. You get a small rock of this about the size of a jellybean... You only need to break off miniscule amounts to top your favorite bowl with and it lasts about as long as an 1/8 of bud in concentrated form)
Also... You can smoke in the club. They have tables with ashtrays and music playing. The sellers are real nice. They have often smoked me out for free while I was deciding on what to purchase. I believe "my" store, the one I frequent, is called Alternative Caretakers... I think. Anywho, it's right in the Castro district and I could probably find out its location for anyone who wants to go to that particular shop.
So how sick do I have to be to get a license?
I got my license for depression. However, I have received electro-convulsive therapy (shock treatments) as a last resort to unending and unbearable depression. I have also taken nearly every antidepressant there is and I'm very resistant to medication. Once I get on a medication that works, (often times an amphetamine), I have difficulty eating and get too thin. So, I use bud to eat meals, as well as to ease the emotions of uncontrollable depression. It can completely lift the pain most times...
So how do you get it if you're not really that sick? I'm not an expert in this area because I actually do and should qualify for medical marijuana. However, I have heard rumor that it's quite easy to get it for "carpal tunnel" from keyboards or videogame controllers and for arthritis in the hands from drawing too much. Another excuse I've heard of is migraines... Anyway, on top of all this, the PA did NOT seem to care what the illness was. Obviously the doctor running that branch of MediCann (I shall save his name...) was mostly concerned with making a profit.
However, there is another solution... You can find out about and research illnesses that may be aided by medicinal marijuana. You can learn their symptoms and you can "play sick" so to speak. I have heard of it done successfully by more people than people who are actually sick. Here is a brief list of conditions that may be eased by marijuana...
Arthritis (Arthritis a young person may have can be from drawing too much, game console controllers or keyboards, or from an aggravated injury in a joint... Think snowboarding injury to ACL or something)
ADHD (It can help with focus)
Major Depressive Disorder (sounds self-explanatory, but you do need to do some research if you're going to claim this one --It has specific symptoms)
Anorexia (easy, easy excuse for girls!)
Inability to eat (if you can claim difficulty eating for some reason or another and it "leaves you underweight," this can be a good excuse/medical complaint)
Carpal tunnel (This is from keyboards, mouses and game console controllers... This one is characterized by numbness and pain in the hands and joints)
Cancer (I wouldn't recommend trying to fake this one, lol)
AIDS (or this one)
Glaucoma (this is a visible problem on the eye... Don't try this one unless you actually have it)
PTSD (you can say it makes panic attacks subside)
Panic Disorder (same as above)
Bipolar Disorder I (Manic depression characterized by more mania than depression... You can claim that bud calms the mania and restores you to level-headedness)
Bipolar Disorder II (Manic depression characterized by mostly depression... You can claim it relieves depression)
Insomnia
Migraines/headaches (Self-explanatory, but you better be able to convince of some damned bad headaches)
General non-responsiveness to painkillers, especially opiates --vicoden, tylenol codeine, perocet/percodan, demerol, morphine, methoadone, etc.
Serious pain with inability to take opiate painkillers (ex. due to sleepiness, grogginess or previous addictions)
That's about all the info I can offer for now... I will update this post if I get more info or to add more questions people are asking frequently. I guess I have one last point... Seeing a doctor for MJ at worst can only leave you "rejected" ...You will not go to jail, even if they catch you faking. They may write down "drug-seeking" in your records and shake their finger in your face. All medical issues are separate from the law and most physicians practice in such a manner so as to establish honesty and confidentiality with patients.
Much love and good luck,
