First step would be to figure out a budget. once you have a bidget set you are able to decide on a couple key factors.

1st being are you going with HID lighting, Florescent lighting, or LED lighting?

Florescent is more cost effective but will lack in quantity and slightly on quality.

LED's are pricey but they pay for themselves after two grows and they are 85% more efficient to operate then HID lighting.

HID is what I went with for my 3' x 3' X 7' kitchen pantry. i grew two big ass bushes (indica dominant plants) with little to no issues. (first grow ever, somethings gonna happen that you didn't account for).

also you need to decide if you'll be using soil, or going hydro with cocco or rock wool cubes, hygroten, dwc.

each have there advantages and disadvantages. for a beginner looking for minimal spending your best best is going to be soil or coco.

hydro is fine, but coasts more due to needing air stones plus air pumps.
also hydro is less forgiving if you make a mistake, maintaing ph, ppms, and us. is mandatory daily project because if one thing fails in yout environment you have big problems! plants could die withing hours.

I'm going to give you what I would do with that space seeing how I had the same thing at my place.

first get yourself some bleach and some water mixed and scrub the shit out of the walls, ceiling, floor and back side of door in that closet. you want a perfectly clean environment for you babies =)

this is pic of my setup.
I have flaxable, reflective insulation from home depot. i lined the wall with it and just used thumb tacks to hold it in place. stayed there for over 7 months no probs!!
600 watt dim-able with 6" vented hood

reflective insulation:
4 ft. x 25 ft. Double Reflective Insulation-BP48025 at The Home Depot

Light package:
High Performance Grower 600W - Grow Light Package

Ventilation fan:
6" Inch Inline Hydroponics Exhaust Tube Duct Fan Blower | eBay

6" flexible ducting, from light to fan inlet:
6 in. x 25 ft. Flexible Aluminum Duct-FL0625/3 at The Home Depot

(4) 6" hose clamps:
6 in. Metal Worm Drive Clamps (25-Pack)-MC625 at The Home Depot

(2) toggle bolts for ceiling anchors:
Zinc Plated 1/4 in. x 3 in. Toggle Bolt with Round Head Phillips Drive Screw (10 Pieces)-10342 at The Home Depot

(2) 1/4" eye bolts, toke toggle nuts off screw they came with and use toggles on your eye bolts with 1/4" X 2" washer
Zinc Plated 1/4 in. x 4 in. Eye Bolt with Nut-06296 at The Home Depot

Aluminum 1/4 in. Flat Washers (4 Pieces)-31318 at The Home Depot

take nut that comes on eye bolt and thread it all the onto the eye bolt, next add one washer to each eye bolt. then add one toggle nut to each eye bolt. once toggle nut is threw hole in ceiling, wings will open to create an anchor. once this takes plave your going to take the nut that you threaded onto eye bolt first, and tighten it up against washer and ceiling until it bites the ceiling tight between toggle nut and washer.

do that for both spots needed to hang your light, then use those adjustable ratchet straps that come with the light package to suspend your light.

what im telling you is exactly what i did for my build. except i'll be advising you to go with soil instead of dwc, like i used. less stuff to buy.

you will need an oscillating fan for plenty of fresh air circulation threw and around plants.

you will also need timer for your light, one for your fan- unless you use a thermal switch.

next you will need to figure out how many plant you want to grow.

are you growing allot of tiny plants to get a sea of green effect?
or are you growing 2 larger plants?

this will determine the amount of soil, pots, nutrients you will need for the grow.

you will also need a good digital thermometer that record the highest and lowest temps in your rm. that way you can keep track of your temps even when your not around, that way if somethings going on you will know about it and be able to make necessary adjustments to your environment.
EcoPlus Large Display Thermometer / Hygrometer

you will also need other little things like:

Multi pen meter (PH, PPM, US):
Hanna Combo pH/EC/TDS/C/PPM Tester

couple of spray bottles, foiliar feeding and azomax

A decent nutrient line up and some fresh healthy beans is all you should need to finish up that laundry list of items..

hope that helped!

I have been checking out Ebay too for lighting. They got this one I want but not sure if it would be right for my closet. I swear we need to IM...

BMM---Hurry up and go shopping! I can't wait to see how you set things up. I try to get ideas from everybody. And Good Luck on your grow!

without an air cooled shade you may find it hard to keep temps in the right range with a 600 watt setup in that space! a 8" fan also makes a fair bit of noise if stealth is important.

Have you worked out how you'll set up your intake and outake fans? as it looks like the only entrance into the closet is the door.
