Help dont know what this is or caused from on my stem

Looks like when the plant was younger it got damaged
Splitting open the stalk, the bulging show the plant repaired itself but left an opening
Appears to now have a fungal infection

Scar tissue from some sort of damage. First thing that comes to mind is that maybe a stem was pulled off and it ripped off some of the green bark.

We can see the same sorts of damage happening on trees, shrubs and just about every other plant out there. Next time you are walking by a tree take a closer look at the smaller details. Be surprised at how many things are happening that will relate to our plants that we grow in a garden or inside in a pot of soil or hydroponically.
