I lived in western North Carolina for a while, years ago. It was fucking awesome, lol. Friendly people, too. My "next door" (quarter-mile away) neighbor was some big high muckity muck in the Ku Klux Klan and he had a large gunnery range on his property. I had a standing invitation to use it any time I wanted, and I took advantage of this regularly. Even let me have a go on the Ma Deuce a few times. Talk about fun, that thing could probably have cut a building in half. Never had a bit of trouble with thieves. I'd probably still be living there if that cop hadn't knocked on the door and asked if I was me that day (long story, but the short version is: If you have to go live somewhere else, a different state beats jail eight ways to Sunday ).
