New alaskan grower with a bit of a green thumb.
Started with some bagseed(4) and am now down to 2. One of which is at day12 of flower, the other still being experimented with. Figured id getsome valuable experience growing and intentionally stressing plants that alreadyhave a high likelyhood of hermie'ing.
Once done playing with these ill t the real show started. (general Afghan kush and a feminized dragons breath are vegging-week3 now.)

So.. Heres my flowering he/she/it.
Am i looking at a male? (appears part of the calyx has 'peeled' down like a nanna) or too soon to tell with certainty?
*nevermind, seems i cant find the image uploader yet..

Edit: under the 0, i see 'creatingcanabis awareness...' AND a big ugly banner. No gallery, and when i try to click under the 0 i just go to the banner site.
Headsup to site staffers. Maybe wanna fix this so new idiots like myself dont get discouraged from using the site.(like any staffers are gonna read this, haha!)
 
Here is a photo of one of mine that grew balls. Yours looks like it might be male also. Give it another day or two. There is no danger yet.

p.s. Mods are very active here. You've found the most professional cannabis sharing site in existence.

1st off a big hearty :welcome: to :420: to Dankwolf You could not find a better site then this to get good advice and a friendly nonjudgmental group of growers.

Sorry for quoting Rifleman in your hearty welcome but I just had to say beside great info I was wanted to let him know I was impressed that he grew a pair :yahoo:

Great advice always be 100% sure before you kill off what may be a lady. Looks can be deceiving sometimes

After spending some time he.she.it this morning, i found one calyx that has 1 coil coming out. Kinda curled/not standing straight up, or up at all.
Pretty sure im seeing female and soon to be male pods, hermie..as expected from droping seed in soil.

Was using this first unofficial grow of 4bagseed as valuable experience and to help dial in my setup before the real fun begins.
.. 2 of the 4 have passed away. I have this one and one still vegging.

Ive learned so very much from these 4, even had a battle with gnats. Learned to properly identify bugs prior to trying to exterminate them. ...(had another mite type bug i noticed along with the gnats. Looked and looked, decided to call them root aphids. After 2weeks of attempting to kill them off i found thread of someone dealing with similar pests. ..long story short, i nearly erradicated the gnats number 1 preditor-hyposis miles mite.)
Nearly cried when i realized this :(
Thankfully i still have several colonies of these lovely little mites spread between houseplants and plantless pots of dirt.

Now,back to the hermi,
Opinions, advise, suggestions or other very welcomed...
To keep it or toss it?
I never expected a harvest from the start, so tossing it isnt a huge loss. However, i have put 2+ months of love (and energy, etc..) into this and hate the idea of trashing it.
Also, happen to be budless at the moment, seedie bud is better then no bud at all right?
..or is the risk of pollinating veg plants not worth it?

Veg room is 3'x4' room within bedroom. Current flowering hermi is in living room coat closet. Mind you the closet door is removed and i imagine pollen traveling to back bedroom isnt impossible.
 
I'm going to try and answer this in a nut shell with your best interests in mind.


1) if you keep it, yes you'll have weed with seeds. So, what? Weed use to always have seeds. You'll enjoy the smoke I'm sure even a little bit.

Now the problem with having a pollinating male in the grow room is a bigger problem then seeds in your weed. I don't deal with males on a regular bases so take this for the "paranoid stoner that only grows females" kind of opinion that perhaps this is.

I would be afraid of contaminating my flower room for future grows. Or even grows that are occurring at the same time. If you have other girls on the go and you touch a pollinating male and touch a female. You have contaminated that female and could possibly polinate her.

I don't know. Worst case scenario you cull her and throw her in the hash bag for a good future smoke.

More advise, suggestions, ideas, or other needed...

I failed! I knew i was going to have humidity issues but rather then forking out cash for a machine i just sat backand waited to see just how bad things would be.

...Bad!!
RH is usually 25%-32% in veg amd flower. Ive tried the wet towel in veg room bit, 3 damp towels hanging. Does well to raise humidity 60-70%+. Only problem is its not something i can do all day long as they need to be re-wet. Also, when temps hit 82ish and i wanna cool things down, the cold alaskan air drops the RH back to 20% in a matter of 2mins or less, while the temp doesnt even drop 1 degree. (takes 10-15min to drop temp back to 75ish)

I have no funding left for this mew hobby. :(
What kind of options do i have?
Plants have been growing/vegging, seemingly just fine at RH 25%. Tho id reallllly love to maximize my harvests.

Side note- i started 4bagseed prior to having any grow room, lights, eq..
Seeds sprouted and grew just fine in the window with lowRH. Ive had an easier time cloning and starting seeds in the window with low RH then under a blue light with high RH. Go figure...
 
You know bud I feel like I've been nothing but a burden of bad news for you. So, this comment starts differently.

First off, I want you to slow down, take a deep breath and pat yourself on the back! You're doing everything right! You're asking questions, you're looking to improve and you're thinking proactively. These are all the tell tale signs of someone with a passion to do well. I can respect that. Good for you, keep it up! +Reps

Now, to answer your question. I don't think you need to be overly concerned about your humidity. And I don't mean that to be ignorant. I mean at 25-30% those are manageable numbers. I'm in northern Canada and I have similar outside temperatures. I work with very similar numbers as that and I'm not complaining. It's great for flower and with less intense lighting you can definitely have a thriving veg room.

I don't think you should be overly concerned.

Pigeon, thanks for the feedback! No matter how horrible anyones thoughts, opinions or advise is....ill gladly read it! (ie..as peryour advise, i still have this plant under flower lights. Cant bring myself to trash it justtt yet. Ill risk pollen for the sake of knowing what im actually seeing)

While phone was charging, i spent time with it.. Scanning everything. Still not seeing any multiple ball sacs at 1 site.
Andddd! 1 top cola has a calyx with 2 hairs!

May i ask pigeon, what strains have you found to grow better in your neck of the woods?
Have an unknown sex afghan kush at week3 veg, just repotted today from a 20oz cup. Spent 10 days in this cup and almost completely covered the bottom in white roots. 10Days! I wasnt expecting to repot for another 10-14days. Im new to this, but was expecting an indica to grow slower...then this. Wont complain tho!

This flowering plant i have, part of the problem with trashing it, is that i feel ive done a fabulous job growing it up and want to see it finnish!
2.5months veg. 18 bud sites at canopy level. 24Inches floor to canopy. No scrog.

Why scrog? Opposed to staking and tieing down? Am i missing something? Both methods achive the same results if done correctly, right?
(someone please take the liberty of renaming the scrog approch go growing. :p Im a stickler for things being what they claim to be, and sorry...but a scrog 'screen' isNOT a screen. Its a spool of string strung backn forth!)( i bought some yellow sticky traps, half of the trap is not sticky. Dont sell me on a 5x8 sticky cardboard trap that only has 2.5x4 worth of stickyness :/)

One More thing ffor now, i swear.

Welcome to the site. Since you used this as your intro and it became a journal, I suggest you head on over to the grow journal section and we can keep the site a bit more uniformed. Thanks for the welcome.

Yes my intro thread got a tad out of hand, tho...its not ment to be a journal, things going on ^ there are all part of an unofficial experimental grow designed to fail and educate me prior to having failures on future 'official' grows.(and i didnt want a bunch of noob questions spread all over the forums)..tho, it didnt fail.yet! I have a healthy, sexy, smelllly lady.

Ill start a journal soon, i just hope i can keep up with it! Soon mello, soon!
