Heavy smoker: Doctor now giving drug screen to get my Adderall in 30 days

Hello! I have been a heavy smoker for a while now, and smoking daily for the past year. I usually smoke a couple blunts a day, with the good stuff, not the brown brick weed.

Anyway, I went to pick up my Adderall prescription from my dr's office today, and there was a post-it note on the back that says I'll have to come in for an appointment and do a drug screen within the next 30 days. I'm not sure of the reasoning for this, I had to do one years ago when I started getting my med at that office, but nothing since. I did notice that since last month, my nurse practitioner is no longer there and they had her replacement write my script. I do know I am supposed to visit yearly to make sure my meds are still doing what they need to do for me. However I'm not sure if it's because they want to cover their asses on record or what.

I'm so worried that I'm not going to be able to pass in that short amount of time and I'll get my prescription yanked. I'm going to try my best to do lots of exercise (HIIT workouts that burn fat fast in addition to my daily yoga practice) and drinking water, but I fear that there's not enough time! I can't use synthetic urine bc I will have to have the Adderall in my system for the test, so this is where it gets tricky.

What other steps have been proven to help clear out the THC? I'm freaking out over here bc I really need the adderall! I use MJ for anxiety as well as recreation, but I'm stopping today obviously. Also, I am a female, 5'3", 120 pounds, slim build.

Thank you!!

Hi Lauragb8908.

Welcome to 420 Magazine and community of folks that gathers here. I'm probably not the right person to address your question with any degree of certainty. As I read it through it though, i did recognize there may be additional information helpful to those who can provide answers.

Are you located in a an Medical or recreational legal state? Is the Dr. requiring the test receiving payment for your services through a government source?

Also, wondering if you've called the Dr.'s office to inquire why the test is necessary and what testing will be done to your blood. Those seem like perfectly logical questions to ask a Dr. suggesting a test is necessary. Why and what are you looking for, are questions I would ask my auto mechanic if they came out from working on my oil change to tell me they are going to "test" my car for something.

I wish you well in this process and peace until it is resolved!

this ^ i've not heard of this sort of thing before, but it seems kind of odd; i'd be asking a couple questions.

on the other hand, there are products you can buy at some smoke shops that clear your system of "everything". I've used one that was a bottle of detox pills, take 1-2 or maybe 3 every day for 20 days, and by the end of it you're system is clean, as long as you weren't using MJ while you took the pills. I actually did feel a bit better physically as well i remember. Then i'd give it a couple days between finishing that and your test so you can make sure you have the correct amount of adderall in your system.

I took a home drug test the night before my test and it showed negative, but i drank a urine screen a while before the test anyways, just to be sure; i passed.

I think it was like $75 for the detox pills

goodluck!

Usually 30 days is adequate given exercise and hydration are plentiful. I know, it's a bother and worry, but Docs have a career and license to maintain, and many that prescribe controlled substances CYA themselves when the DEA audits their prescribing history. I have two lifelong friends that are Docs, and they both do urine screens for patients with standing CS Rx. Their liability is extreme, and they have careers to protect, even if good Docs that aren't pill pushers. We don't see it as such since its our health, but Medical is just a business too, and tests are money makers!

Stressing about the test will change nothing but make you miserable, please try to do you best work hard and not worry. I know easier said than done, but I would surely hit the treadmill and pool! I've worked urinalysis before in my career, and I think if you abstain and work it hard for 30 days you'll be good to go on the test.

Best Of Luck

If it's not for a job I don't see a problem in having THC in your blood if they even test for it.
Remember whether you pay your doctor through taxes or directly. he's your employee and you can probably always find another.
I don't think a doctor will take you of meds you need because you smoke weed, that would be crazy.
However I think you should reconsider taking that drug unless it's for narcolepsy, it won't do you good in the long run.

I will guess 99.99% of the 420Mag members would agree, and that's exactly why we need to change laws.
I will also guess that umpteen thousands of people are denied medications by Doctors strictly based upon positive THC test results.

It's the world we live in, let's change it!

From a privacy standpoint, you have nothing to fear (if you're in the U.S.) from taking a drug test at a docs office. The repercussion - if any - would be denial of service. Is this your primary care provider, or a doc-in-a-box? If doc-in-a-box, establish yourself with a proper primary care physician and rebuild your relationship. I've heard (where I live) of doctors taking a lot of flak when it comes to prescribing recurring prescriptions for narcotics or other drugs that are prone to abuse. I've never heard of anyone being required to take a drug test in order to have service rendered. Doc-in-a-box joints are under heavy pressure these days when it comes to writing recurring prescriptions. Family practice/primary care facilities are too, but not nearly as much.
Personally, I would shop for a new physician.

Hi Lauragb8908
That is really bizarre that your Doctor would require a drug test prior to filling your script. Are you in a state where recreational marijuana is legal? Are they concerned you are abusing your medication? I totally agree with TanR about asking questions! Worse case scenario is you take the test, fail and find another nurse practitioner. Easier said than done I know, it can be a pain switching doctors for this type of prescription but if you have been consistently getting this kind of treatment it wouldn't be difficult to continue with another doctor as they could get your med records . I get a prescription myself and have been for years. I've never once been drug tested or even asked. On the bright side being that you are a slim build I don't see you having issues clearing your system. Good luck and keep us posted!!

I actually live in a state which has legalized Medical Marijuana. However, I had to sign a contract with my clinic saying I would not get a marijuana card (I already had one) or use any "street drugs", including marijuana. The nurse who brought me the contract which was for all controlled substances told me it was mainly just for chronic pain patients, and implied I shouldn't worry about it. So I figured it was a covering their liability sort of thing and didn't.

My very next visit I tested positive for THC, negative for the Adderall I'd last taken that morning (I take it as prescribed) and was told that a second positive test would end my ability to receive any controlled medications from them. So even where it's legal, this is a problem.

I have to go for script refill for hydrocodone on Tuesday. Not only will you be denied for pot, but also for alcohol. Have to go to a pain management specialist, because my regular doctor is not capable to write scripts for opiates (this may actually be for all class 3 or whatever # drugs). This is thanks to Pam Bondi, our state attorney, who just happens to hate anything pot. She is the same that Trump has interviewed recently. Hopefully she doesn't get offered some federal position where she has any influence on regulations, because she is not our friend, and will weigh heavily negative on pot matters.
Hey, a new slogan POT SMOKERS MATTER! Let's go protest.....

Wow, what a crock. It is illegal to sell cleaners or fake urine for its intended purpose in florida. Head shop has it in stock but if u mention in any way that u are using it to pass a test they will not sell it to you. There r papers taped to the counters that also say you can not read the instructions on the box out loud. Have to say something like a gag gift or urine fetish. That's great. Refuse people what they need and send them to get it on the street. I asked around out of curiosity, and hydrocodone can be had for $100 per 21/pills. Stupid ass politicians force people.to go where they are actually trying to control. I need some cheese to go with all this whine...
I did pay $26 for a 3 oz bottle of xstream. Wonder if I should shave a bit off one of my pills as they probably expect to see opiates in there.
