A former senior manager at Health Canada's Medical Marijuana Program has been named CEO of a private medical marijuana education centre which plans to open two Ottawa locations in coming months.

Gulwant Bajwa will become CEO for National Access Cannabis (NAC), a private company that helps clients obtain medical marijuana legally. Bajwa had previously worked as a policy analyst in the science activity valorization and development division for the Health Canada program.

"Mr. Bajway brings unparalleled industry knowledge to NAC," said Colin Trethway, spokesman for the NAC. "Bajwa understands how the system works at every level. His background makes him a firm believer in medical marijuana's positive impact on patients."

The NAC, a centre which provides education and physician services, will open two centres by the spring: one on Wellington St. West and a second location which has not yet been determined.

The centre does not dispense medical marijuana, it provides supports to its clients on how to access the drug legally through Health Canada.

The support centre charges a $99 initial membership fee for clients, then $49 per year for renewals.
