hawaiian soil?

can someone with knowledge of hawaiian soil ,tell me how to make a mix in the jungle that will be easy and cheap but most of all light weight. its the red clay type. can i add ash, bone meal etc? help. also i will be hikeing far so light weight is a must. aloha

kauai? I think you would be better off to prep your soil rather than using anything around there. Are you planning on doing a lot of plants cause if only a few you could haul a decent amount with a fat pack. You could also use a lot of perlite, thats light. It might be a pain but I think the results will be worth it. good luck and aloha
