Halogen lighting

I have seen much discussion with regards to lighting in these forums. I was wondering if anyone has tried any of the newer halogen par lamps that are currently available on the market today? If they have what was the outcome?
What was the upside and or the downside to using these lamps? I look forward to hearing from any and all!

halogen blubs don't produce the right light spectrum, the lumens per watt output is low, they are ineficiant to grow, and cost too much to operate.
