Groenliefde en Geluk: Og Kush, Cosmic Cookies And a Wizard - Autos Grow With Carmen

:):):):green_heart::):):)

Welcome to my first quarter grow! I am on a quest to grow big autos!
I'm feeling pretty confident with my LOS rebuild and I'm all set to merrily forge ahead with another summer tabletop grow! Please have a seat on the magic carpet and join me for the ride

Greetings friends and mentors,

I have been fortunate to receive some green love from a local grow shop, who have given me some great seeds for this grow. Here's the lowdown!

LIGHTS - @ViparSpectra XS1500 Pro lights x 2
MEDIUM - Rebuilt living organic soil
ACTION - OG Kush auto, Cosmic Cookies auto and a surprise auto

Nutrient program:
I keep my soil cooking in 30 L black totes between grows. I leave the post harvest roots in the soil to decompose and retain a healthy mycorrhizae population. The roots are also a great source of carbon. I like to think that the micro herd remain active in the soil as it cooks. I keep it well watered to provide the right micro-climate for the organic processes to take place.
I use a local product called Elemental Blend, by Dirty Hands Inc, to rebuild my soil. It's a premixed amendment that I also use as a top dressing in flower. I use the Elemental Blend in conjunction with Earthworm Compost (EWC). I must emphasize that it is pretty easy to do. I empty the post-harvest bag of soil into an empty tote, break it up with my hands and then add the amendments. I work those in my hand, water it down, seal it and Bob's your uncle!

I don't leave it to settle for a set length of time. Whenever I need a tub I open one. That gives it at least three weeks to cook while the babies sprout and grow some roots in readiness for transplant into 20 L fabric grow bags.

In my ordinary watering regimen I alternate hydrolyzed fish ferts, kelp and plain water. When I up-pot I sprinkle mycorrhizae (and Beauveria Bassiana*) in the hole before burying the roots.

When the plant starts flower I begin a weekly practice of top dressing with EWC and Elemental Blend. Every two weeks she gets a dose of Nourish, another local fertilizer. I continue the ordinary watering regimen. This all continues until the end of the grow to keep the plant in peak condition. Although I don't test for Brix yet, I feel confident that my plants are pretty bug resistant and verdant most of the time.

I don't test VPD yet either but both are coming. VPD will eventually take the place of my adherence to DLI, which I have found to be most fruitful. I use a free phone app called Photone, which I have calibrated to my lights. It requires that you slide a simple paper diffuser over the camera when you take your readings. It's very handy.

Lights:
I follow a DLI table. I set the Photone app and the lights to an 18/6 lighting schedule, meaning that the lights will be on for 18 hours of the day.

Right! I think that's enough of a read for starters :hippy:

* more later (pest control)

Pest Control:
I use a multi-pronged approach here.
I have been using Beauveria Bassiana on my crops for a few years and thanks to @StoneOtter and @Gee64 I learnt that it is better to bury the powder than to use as a foliar treatment. Bees will take it back to their hives and it'll kill the young, whereas in moderate dosage in the soil it is in it's natural state and less of a threat to bees. More detailed info and references can be found on site with a simple key word search. The BB is a naturally occurring fungus that attacks insects and kills them. I use that as a preventive.

If I have a plant that catches bugs, which no longer seems to happen, I use Biogrow Neudosan, which is salts of fatty acids. You can't use that in flower because it browns the pistils.

I hang yellow sticky cards above the plants to attract midges, flies and gnats. I don't get gnats in my soil anymore but when I did, I would use a solution containing Bacillus Thuringiensis Israelensis which is found in mosquito dunks. Then I sprinkle Diatomaceous Earth (DE) on the top of the soil to catch any surfacing individuals.

That's it really. I follow a high Brix practice and that's a wonderful way of reducing the bug populations around your plants. The higher the sugar content in the plant the less insects will tolerate it it, and so avoid your plants.

I think that's it.

I'm in for a Magic Carpet Ride! 🎶

Steppenwolfe

I like to dream, yes, yes
Right between the sound machine
On a cloud of sound I drift in the night
Any place it goes is right
Goes far, flies near
To the stars away from here
Well, you don't know what we can find
Why don't you come with me, little girl
On a magic carpet ride
Well, you don't know what we can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free
Close your eyes, girl
Look inside, girl
Let the sound take you away
