The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors have kept three medical marijuana dispensaries from opening over the years. So one way for patients to get their medical marijuana is to go through a mobile delivery service.
The San Luis Obispo Grand Jury heard testimony that as many as 40 delivery services currently operate in the county. They fear some are operating illegally, and that traveling around with cash and marijuana could invite trouble.
According to the report, law enforcement in the county have linked two homicides and a dozen home invasions to medical marijuana. There is a worry is it may be getting onto the black market and into the hands of youth.
The grand jury found these services don't test their product, and some businesses don't collect or pay sales taxes. Though there are delivery services who take serious attempts to comply with the Attorney General's Guidelines regarding medical marijuana.
In the report it asks the county and cities to incorporate regulations and ordinances to monitor these mobile delivery services. In order for patients to have safer access to medical marijuana and the county could receive business license revenue. As well as distinguishing who is doing business legally in the county.
According to the report no cities in SLO county have adopted any ordinances, except for Atascadero, which has prohibited the delivery service all together.
