GILROY, Calif. -- Ban On Any New Dispensaries Goes Into Effect In 30 Days.
The City Council of Gilroy approved a permanent ban Monday on any additional medical marijuana dispensaries.
In a four to three vote, the council approved the ban, which will take effect in 30 days.
The ban, however, will not affect MediLeaf, which opened without proper business permits last year.
Those in favor of the ban told Action News they were pleased with the decision.
"People who voted in medical marijuana dispensaries for sick people -- that's not what's happening. It's all B.S. It's blood money," said Bob Cooke, of the California Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement.
"They're making money off the backs of people who are sick."
MediLeaf said it has 1,400 members, but is strict on who it lets through its doors.
