GG7's Indoor/Outdoor Grows!

bluddy hell mate, lions, what ever next, the worse we get is the odd fox, small fluffy things that run away when they see you, thats about as lively as the wildlife gets here, you have to watch out from the native kids, they can be pretty vicious sometimes, lol, lions n guns, we dont have either here, my dogs about the nastiest thing where i live,

We see plenty of Bears and Foxes and Bob Cats up here but they are rarely a problem. Very rarely one of these big cats. Especially one that is going after pets so consistently. They still haven't caught it yet. So far it has killed 3 cats and two dogs last night about a mile from our place. I'm leaving all those CFLs on the back hill on all night until they get this thing, hoping that all the bright lights will scare it away if it comes around here. They are such beautiful animals and of course this was their land first, but if this one continues doing what it's doing, it will not end well him.

Really hope they can dart it and take it up the mountain far, far away from here! Everyone's being very careful after dark and during the wee hours. The last two pet kills happened right around sunup. Reports from folks who have seen it, state that it is that it is a BIG male with an obvious taste for domestic pets.

LOL! Saw a bear on my last camping trip. It looked at me and I went on about my business as nothing was happening. She decided I wasn't worth the trouble and escorted junior away. They were about 100yds away, and all I wanted was some snow for the cooler. Didn't even have a gun, but I knew they'd e out there, and wasn't even surprised to see her. I guess me staying calm, and acting like I didn't even care she was there was defense enough. Heard a few lion screams in the night, but they were across the ravine from us. We just packed the 8lb dog in the tent and went to sleep, weapons under the pillows of course, lol.

Hey GG7,
First let me say thank you for the links in your sig. 2nd, I like the higher CBD strain idea for mom who has cancer, but also for myself as I am looking for an anti-inflammatory strain. Jandre nudged me in this direction, saying you had a high CBD strain and at 10%, woah... I guess I need to find some Harlequinn. Do you find it good for anti-inflammatory action? Great Grow and +reps

Hey Surf Buddy! WElcome to my main grow journal!

Sorry to hear about your Mom. Cancer is never easy.

I can't give you any reports on this Harlequin yet since I haven't tried it myself. The plants won't be even going into flower until August, and harvest won't be until OCtober since they are outside.

From everything I have read about high CBD strains, this one I am growing tested as one of the highest. If all goes according to plan, I will be sending a sample of my Harlequin bud to a lab up in Northern California for testing. Then we will have some real solid numbers on what this strain provides.

CBD is definitely the way to go if you want the anti-inflamatory results without so much of the THC that gets you high. I know that not everyone feel like being stoned 24/7, but with so few strains out there that don't have high THC levels, its tough to avoid at the moment.

Stay tuned to my journal for the latest updates on the grow. Right now we are waiting to find out what the sexs are of my four Harlequin seedlings. Should know in 7-10 days from now. Meanwhile, the plants themselves are getting close to 3 feet tall and are going to need to be moved into larger Air Pots soon. I'm trying to hold off on that until I know what I have.

Thanks again for checking in and to Jandre for getting thr word out! :)

Cheers. ;)

Hi goose. Hope they find that big cat soon before it does any more harm.

I wanted to share some info on CBD, if it helps great. First this web site ProjectCBD is a great starting source. I actually picked up a pack of some Canna-Tsu seeds but this ones going to require some work, with a 50% chance of CBD I'll have to devote a grow to it. I have a bulging disc and high CBD really helps the acute pain, kinda takes the edge off for me. Really amazing stuff.

Been lurking these forums for a while now but, finally signed up. GG your journal is one of the best I have read yet. Thank you, it has helped me greatly in my cloning efforts.

Thank you! :)

Glad that you have found my journal useful and have decided to start posting here on 420! :thumb:

I will be posting my next photo update soon, so stay tuned! ;)

Just a quick update to report that I am still waiting on the results of my 12/12 tests with cuttings from the Harlequin and PR seedlings that are in my cloner. The plants themselves are all over 2 feet tall now out back, but so far the cuttings are not showing any indications of sex, nor are the actual plants. It has only been a little under a week since I put the cuttings in there, so we probably won't know anything till this time next week.

On a more concerning note, for some reason the GDP have all entered that strange semi-flower veg state that a few of them were in earlier. Don't understand why since the light levels are as high as they get for the season at our our location and I also have been running CFLs all night for the wildlife issues, so it must be something else that is causing the behavior.

I suspect that this is some climate related issue, or perhaps just the end of the line for the GDP since these are the 7th set of cuttings to be taken since I first cloned the original three plants last year. Just going to keep them going and feeding them on their schedule and see what happens. If they don't reveg before the middle of July, they will likely not be in any condition to flower properly since they don't have any normal veg growing tips right now. Just odd curled leaves and singles coming out from the tips.

If this continues to be their state, I guess that will be the end of the line for the GDP strain for now. I will post some photos in the next few days. Been really busy with other matters, so haven't had much time to update this journal.

Stay tuned! :)

Oh no! the end of GDP? Say it ain't so! Sounds like it's revegging though? One tip leaves?

Sorry for the delay...

I have been dealing with some health isssues over the last few weeks which has prevented me from updating this journal. I hope to have some updates soon.

In a nutshell... The Harlequin and Purple Rhino plants in the cloner have still not shown their sex yet even under a 10/14 light cycle, but they have all managed to root in the cloner without any effort on my part! The roots are about 6 inches long now and the plants have grown about 3 inches since the cuttings were put in there! Makes me think twice about needing to use all the special cloning solutions and such, since all I put in the water was Fox Farm Grow Big! ;)

The seedlings themselves are all over 3 feet tall now and just waiting for the sex results for transplanting. Fortunately, the small Air Pots they are in allows me to continue to leave them in these 2 gal and 1.5 gallon sizes without any root binding symptoms.

The GDP is still in that nether world between veg and flower except for the three plants that are getting full sun on our back deck. They have finally gone back to a veg cycle and are putting out normal looking growing tips. I chalk up the problem to a lack of direct sun for the plants on the back hill. Shade from the surrounding trees is about 50% more than last year which I think has contributed to the problem.

Will try to update with photos as soon as I have the energy to do so.

Stay tuned. :)

Thanks guys! I appreciate it! :thumb:

My Doc says that I need to take it easy for a few weeks and not try to take on so many projects at the same time. ;) I also need to refrain from doing any gardening during the heat of the day cause lately, our temps up here have been getting close to triple digits and it is just too darn hot to be out there as much as I have been.

Hope to have some photos to post soon.

Stay tuned. :)

'sup Goose?

Sure hope your health improves and you start feeling better. Will be anxious to get your thoughts on Harlequin as well. Good luck with GDP, sounds like she's coming around though? Be well buddy! X

BIG Photo Update 07/12/12
Harlequin and Purple Rhino Seedling Progress - GDP and Blue Cheese Veg Mystery Solved!

I know it has been a very long time since I updated the journal. Some health issues along with a lack of progress with the various ongoing grow issues was the primary reasons behind the long delay.

Over the last week things have started to improve on all fronts and I can finally post some photos of all the various grows along with some answers to the veg problems with the GDP and Blue Cheese clones.

But first...The Harlequin and PR grows...

Harlequin

They have grown up a lot since the last update as you can see from the following photos...

In the Cloner (Week 3)

These cuttings have still not shown any signs of their sex yet, but they have managed to grow about 4 inches since they were taken and their roots are almost as long! They remain under a 10/14 light cycle, but so far, no indications of what sex they are. I figure that the plants are just not mature enough to enter their flower cycle yet. Hopefully soon.

GDP and BC Veg Mystery Solved!

The problem was simply a lack of direct sunlight on the back hill. Since last year, the forest canopy directly over the hill has grown out about 2 feet which was just enough to prevent anything on the hill from getting more than a few hours of direct sunlight a day. Apparently, mixed light with primarily shade wasn't enough to prevent these 7th generation clones from entering a pseudo flower mode. Once the plants were moved to our back deck where they can get a full day of direct sunlight, they quickly went into a solid veg mode in less than 7 days after being moved.

Have a look at the before and after shots...

I guess all they needed was a little nudge in the right direction and they quickly entered a solid veg mode in record time. I have since moved all the remaining plants in this state to our back deck and expect the rest to follow suit within the next 7 days. Since the Harlequin and PR are obviously not ready to flower yet, I swapped all those to the back hill to make room for all the floundering GDP and BC.

We still have about another 5 weeks of 14+ hours of daylight outdoors, so hopefully all these will have reached a solid veg mode with hearty growing tips in place of their mutant-like state. Then when the light levels start falling and the plants begin to react, there will be enough veg growth in place to support normal bud formation. I have no doubt that if these plants were left in their previous state, there would have been little to no bud formation and very likely a failed crop!

--------------------------------------------

Well.... That does it for now! Sorry for the HUGE delay and lack of activity lately. I am still trying to take things easy around here as the doctor ordered, so I am not going to be able to maintain the previous weekly update schedule of last year. Still... I will be posting periodic updates if anything major happens such as discovering the sex of the Harlequin and PR cuttings. I expect that it shouldn't be too much longer before that happens, so stay tuned!

Hopefully I haven't completely lost my previous subcribers after all the weeks of silence! As always, I welcome your comments, questions and suggestions!

Until next time then! :thanks:

EXCELLENT UPDATE! Everything is looking great! Those Harlequin GDB seedlings are doing really well. Also, glad you got the 50/50 plants figured out. I was at a loos as to what was going on with those. We hardly ever think about the growth of other plants and how it affects our little grow inside our own space.

I'm glad you're feeling better, brother. Up and about is always good to hear, over down and out. I know you will without me saying it, but, Keep'em Green!

Thanks for the support guys! MUCH appreciated! :thumb:

It is good to be feeling better and being able to at least keep better tabs on everything going on out back!

This year's grow has definitely been a real learning experience for me! I thought I pretty much had everything down, but so many things have happened this year out of the ordinary that I have found out some stuff I never knew about!

I definitely learned a lot about light intensity during this 50/50 problem with the GDP and the BC. It is not enough to simply give them 14+ hours of daylight and partial sun. They actually need direct sunlight in order to prevent them from doing what they did. Since the back hill has always enjoyed full sun in past years, I never really considered that a more shady enviroment would lead to a problem like that, but it obviously did!

Also... I am still amazed at the cuttings in the cloner! Although I am a bit frustrated that it is taking forever for them to show their sex, I am really surprised at how well they have rooted in just plain water and FF Grow Big!

I never put any cloning gel on them, nor did I add any of the usual cloning solutions to the water. My plan was to simply keep them alive long enough to show me what sex each of the seedlings were out back and then toss them. They have rooted so well, that I may actually try the same exact technique the next time I do a cloning session. I am also considering actually planting what have now become clones in soil and letting the females complete their flower cycles, since there is a good chance that they may end up being large enough to actually produce a respectable amount of bud by then! ;)

Just goes to show ya... There are always more surprises out there to learn about... even for seasoned gardeners who have been doing this for years! ;)

Thanks again for your comments guys! :thumb:

Hi GG7. Buddy you had me worried there for a while. I think you said it, it's totally not like you to miss any days at all. Even though your back...take it easy. The clones sound good and you learned a bit there too. The trees growing to block the sun was something we just don't consider sometimes. Take your time...I don't think you've lost your audience. We all love to follow your grows.
Take care!
:bravo:

Those clones are looking great! And I'm glad you got the full sun on em now, I bet it will be a blessing in disguise, making them grow out super extra double jumbo plenty tops.

I'm sticking around for the long haul!
