Getting too crowded

Hey Guys,

I am a first time grower. Im growing in a closet which is 60cm x 60cm x 240 cm, using 400 Watt MH light.

5 plants( 2ft tall) in 5th week of vegetive.

My question is if it is too crowded??

Any suggestions?
 
That sounds about right. Four might fit better .... but you should be able to do 5. 60cm is something like three feet isn't it? My grow box is 3 ft x 4 ft x 6 ft tall. I can do 6 in there comfortably. I could probably squeeze 8 or 10 in there .... but that would be awfully crowded. And, it would probably be near impossible to tweek an individual plant that is near the back. You can check out my box by clicking on my grow journal (link is in the signature block)


I suggest you make sure you have good ventilation. You already have about the perfect size light.
 
That's a nice simple design. Should work out well.
 
That's what I do. If there is a really nice bunch of new growth that will turn into a cola. And there is an enormous fan leaf blocking the light, I either bend the stem of the fan leaf or just pinch it off to allow light to get to where it's needed. Just don't go overboard.
 
Thats fine. u could get 80 hempys in there no prob! dont worry about taking fan leaves off. I strip my plants bare to get light through. More and more people are turning to high defoliation techniques. If u do trim just make sure u are giving the plant quality nutes so u can give through the rootzone what the plant needs from the fan leaves. check out this for tips on defoliating, its a current grow. i'd lower ur light too, it looks high up. Get it as close as poss without burning plants. Just put ur hand on top of plants and lower until hand feels warm
 
I just got a second cabinet to use as my cloning/mother plant area and it's dimensions is 1.5foot(18.5inchs) width, 2.25foot (28inchs) height and length 3 foot (38inches). Any suggestions for a lighting set up, as I seem to have a problem with heat with my current bulbs.
 
i can only suggest 3' flouro tubes for such a teeny space. anything else will take up too much room i think and small flouros dont make much heat...and they really do work ok...for vegging? if you cant find a 6500k tube get a dual spec. i have a 4' one and its a pretty purple colour and fed all of my plants at one stage for a while...this is going to be my bonsai light.

Edit: you may need a smaller length to fit in the box.
 
Here is an update to my grow box set up and also a picture of the new cabinet for the clones/mother plants (Blueberry and White Widow strain supposedly).

Any more suggestions for a lighting set up guys?

So i just put in a new 400 Watt HPS light addition to the 400 Watt MH I'm already using but with an external ballast and no reflector. However, the temperature spiked to 95F at the top of the plant and 82F at the middle of the plant, and 73F at soil level.

Is that too hot for the plant? Or will it not affect it at all?
 
yeah 95f is pushing it. 0 is considered overly warm. u will get benefit from hps and mh as its a fuller spectrum of light, but i dont use mh at all now, the diff between mh and a quality hps is minimal to final product. If i were u i'd use 2 hps
 
What temperature would you guys think would be considered the maximum? I have an Exhale Homegrown Co2 cultivator in there as well.

I think going with one 400w MH and one 400w HPS is the safest option, until I finish my first grow.
