Freshly mowed grass

How do I prevent fresh dried buds from smelling like cut grass or hay.I want to bring out its true fragance and taste. It retains its medicinal value and quality, but all the love and care that goes into growing, I think its right to enjoy its fine smell and taste. I read a post that said growing is a science, curing is an art. Does anyone have any suggestions ? Thanks.

Re: freshly mowed grass.

Grow organic, a lot of people would say soil/organic grows will taste/smell better than a grow with synthetic chemical nutrients in hydro.

Re: freshly mowed grass.

I use fox farm and age old grow, and pro mix soiless mix. which I believe are all organic. Thanks though. I appreciate you in put.

Re: freshly mowed grass.

I cut lengths off the main stock, hang them from a line with a cloths pen manicured by hand, in a vented dark hallway, for 5-7 days, takedown, pick nuggets off stems, put in rubber sealed mason jars, 1 quart. Breath 4-5 times a day until sticks break not bend. Pretty text book I thought. If the jar fogs up, I take them out and lay them on paper on a shelf in a closet

Re: freshly mowed grass.

Darn it. I typed this once, then my computer had a conniption....

I wish I had an answer for you. I'm on my first grow, so no idea. Just throwing out ideas here. What strain are you growing? Do you get a pungent dank smell during flower? When are you harvesting? Just things that come to mind that might be a factor. Hope you get it figured out!

Hey y'all...

As far as the "Trim/Dry/Cure" phase...lol...which is fun...:yummy:

a) I do the same as 'clever'...cut the branches to about 18" or so, then hang in cool/dark/vented place for about 4-5 days (when the nugs STRAT to get a little 'crunchie' to the touch...be careful NOT to SQUEEZE em...)

b) then, seperate buds from branches and layer the bottom of plain brown paper bags (only layer up to 2" or so per bag), and gently 'fluff' them every 6 hours-for even drying, being gentle as not to bruise the lil darlins! AND...they is STICKY! lol)

c) when then buds feel firmer and a bit more 'crunchy' after about 4-5 days, time to jar and cure a few days...'burping' the jars several times a day.....storing jars in a closet.

My smoke just got better as it 'aged' in the jars! Lol...my patients and other patients i meet try my meds...they want my number!

Peace to ya all...and remember, you can finds all your answers form AWESOME Gro-GURU's here on 420Mag!

Re: freshly mowed grass.

hey fuzzyD...
from my experience you are 100% correct as usual, organics is preferrable. I have used hydro set up from the start and use a good natural nutrient(s) and do 2-3 'clean flushes' during flower with a final flush before harvest. i notice the 'chlorophyl' (sp) smell after harvest, but found a cure for that (at least it works for me)
The final flush is CRITICAL and should be ONLY ph correct water at least 5-6 days before harvest...then...

a) cut branches about 18 inches or so, trim and hang in dark/cool/vented place for 4-5 days
b) seperate buds from branch and layer (no more than 2 inches thick) in bottom of brown paper bags (loosley closed) for another 4-5 days (rotating or gently 'fluffing' the buds several times a day for even drying), or until nice and firm and a bit crunchy...
c) then put approx 1/2 oz (14g) in quart jars, 'burping' (opening) the jars, gently 'fluff' the buds each time, several times a day.
d) stroe and enjoy! it seems i store mine in the jars in a cool closet. The longer in there the better the taste...and the med effects are just as nice!

Best to ya all! WELL DONE!
Drying and curing methods also can bring out the natural fragrances we all desire!

Re: Freshly mowed grass.

How long have you been curing? It can take months to get a good cure. Your mj may still be moist inside. Just give it more time.

Re: Freshly mowed grass.

Hi Clever. Your curing method sounds good. Some might suggest curing even longer in the dark room but 1 week is certainly a good amount of time.

A lot of the smell is going to come down to the Strain, the nutes given, the growing conditions, and how healthy the plants are (i.e they do not have mold or such).

While curing is very important for taste, smell and potency. I think the other factors listed above are also heavily influential for all 3.

Personally my plants are still in veg, but if I break a stem or crush a leaf it smells like dank chronic, definitely not like grass or hay. I grow in soil and all organic though.

hey flipper
My drying process (as stated above) has worked really well for me. The 'curing' part has been 1-2 weeks and they get just right by then...but i have usually been quite happy with a 5-7 day 'cure' in jars and the MJ is quite a good smoke! (silly ol me...i just HAVE to try it out, yeah?)

Nugs are still sticky with a nice 'crunch' when breakin it up...and the AROMA! WOW...from smelling like it justr was scraped from under th lawnmower to HOLEY SHIT 2-hit-shit with an awesome aroma!

maybe i'm just lucky...but...the drying/curing method i mentioned works very well

I DO appreciate you input!

:peace::Namaste:
