Freebies, hydrogen peroxide and frustration

Are freebies typically older seeds that suppliers just want to ditch? Seems the germination percent sucks more than others.

And to revive old seeds, this method of soaking them for a day in 6:1 water to hydrogen peroxide to soften the shell makes sense. Trying that now. Anyone had any luck with it?

Hey buddy :ciao:
I soak my seeds in water with 10% hydrogen for no more than 18 hrs.
If you soak too long there is a possibility they could drown.
Then wet paper towel with the same water &peroxide.
They need warmth, darkness, moisture and air.
Then the tail will poke out.
I have a tremendous success rate doing this.
Hope it works for you.
Happy growing :high-five:

i think freebies are a combo of seeds banks want to dump (not that they are bad or anything), tester seeds from breeders, and seeds from breeder crosses that just was not exactly what the breeder was looking for. I just pop seeds in water till they sink, then plant in a wet sponge pot/wet paper towel and pray. just popped 7-8 year old Sannie's sugar punch and Sannie's jack seeds a couple months back. kept them in a film vile in the fridge in the butter compartment.

Pretty sure he is talking about 3% grocery store, drugstore hydrogen peroxide
Mix that 10% with water
One part 3 %hydrogen peroxide to 9 parts of water

Yep just the cheap stuff from the dollar store.
If it weren't for 2 that died after popping last spring I'd have 100% success rate since I moved up here.
Probably 65/70 plants.
I swear by it. :thumb:

So you’re talking 9:1 hyd to water and then keep that solution to use on the paper towel? Thanks mate
