Fox tailing

I have two plants going… the one on the right is a Grandaddy Purple by Blimburn Seeds and the one on the left is a Cali OG Kush Haze by Crop King Seeds. Both in week 8 or flower, in coco, Gaia Green organic nutes, in 5 gal fabric pots under 320 watt Crecer Lighting’s PanthrX Mini V1 within manufacture’s recommended distance and Solacure’s F20 UVB for only 30 minutes a day. The GDP is starting to fox tail but the OG Kush no sight even though same condition. Both smell great and very frosty. The GDP shows no amber trich where as the other has a few. My question Is why is one fox tailing and the other not under similar conditions and is fox tailing bad in terms of final product? I did raise the light a bit from when I first noticed they continued to fox tail.

Hi @Vinny133 !
That is not foxtailing... don't let someone get you all worked up. This is how the buds swell at the end and get bigger in girth. This is new bud growing, and it is a very good thing. Your buds will typically do this in the last couple weeks of the grow and they can swell up to twice the size by the end.

Foxtailing happens out at the fringe areas of the light, and quite often on branches that are leaning up against a tent wall. Foxtails are very airy and light, and they dry down to practically nothing after harvest. True foxtailing is ugly, whereas your buds look beautiful.

Enjoy your harvest soon! :goodjob:

Nothing wrong with foxtailing, it's an indication that the plant is in overdrive in my opinion if all else appears well.

If the smoke as good as the bud nugs themselves it's all the same.

All good bud imo

Here’s a pic of a Thai strain that I grow. If you zoom in on the buds, they are all stacked calyx and some would say foxtails. But they’re really not, it a common growth pattern for equatorial strains.

“bad” foxtails are thin and airy, sometimes they’ll form a fist shaped bud on top (from light stress)

The other thing Emilya said that can be very true is the amount of bulk that type of growth you have can add in the last couple weeks.

This Thai strain I grow puts on all its bulk right at the end.

Sensi Seeds Afghan in foxtail runaway(left)…. In my case, it did severely compromise quality. The buds were the size of softballs and rock hard. It was genetics/light caused. All the under growth buds were awesome! The tops just wouldn’t quit. I’d still be waiting for her to finish if I didn’t give up on her.

Those do look quite different. Thanks for your comment.

Just finished week 9 of flower, trichomes not quite there. Supposed to be 60-65 days of flower to finish according to breeder. At least another week I think…. Maybe more.
