Public hearings are being held this week in four New Hampshire communities being eyed as potential hosts for the state's first medical marijuana dispensaries.
A hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at Plymouth Town Hall.
The nonprofit group Sanctuary ATC of Salem wants to open a state-licensed dispensary along Tenney Mountain Highway.
Mike Conklin is chair of the Plymouth select board, and says he hasn't heard much pushback from residents on the proposal.
"From what I've seen, I can't really conclude that there's a great deal of concern among most of the people in town," he said. "There is a concern among some that just having a large quantity of marijuana in town is risky, particularly for the young people."
The state law passed in 2013 allows for four dispensaries, spread out across different geographic regions in the state.
Merrimack, Lebanon and Peterborough are also being considered as possible sites.
A public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Monday before the Merrimack Planning Board.
Hearings are also scheduled for Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Peterborough and Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Lebanon.
