City Manager Mike Patterson announced Monday during the Florence City Council meeting that the city will have a workshop on recreational marijuana use at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 3 at the council chambers at 600 W. Third St.
In conjunction, the Fremont County Commissioners plan to discuss the issue during the same day.
"They're going to be setting their rules that day," Patterson said. "For us, it's going to be a workshop. Then the council can direct us to what they want us to do Sept. 16 for the next meeting, whether they want us to put a moratorium in place, allow it or do nothing."
In other business, Police Chief Mike DeLaurentis reported the concerns of the code enforcement and the overgrowth of weeds in the city.
"The rain we've had, the weeds has been tremendous," he said. "Our code enforcement officer works four hours a day, and she spends the other four hours a day (working with public works)."
In July, she had 13 or 14 code enforcement violations. By Aug. 15, she had 17 code enforcement violations already, which doesn't include animal calls. Once a code violation is reported, it takes up to 30 days to correct it, DeLaurentis said.
The council also made the following decisions:
– Approved an extension of a contract for Frazier Avenue Improvement project to Aug. 31, 2015.
– Approved a hearing date for 7 p.m. Sept. 3, for the Florence Elks special event permits for Wounded Warrior event, Pioneer Day Dance and Oktoberfest.
– Approved a liquor license renewal for The Hamlet Tavern.
– Changed the date of next meeting to Sept. 3 because of Labor Day.
