Greetings Everyone!
First Time growing in coco. Had no idea what I was doing and am aware I screwed the pH up in the beginning. I was giving her 6.5 ph’d water like my other plants. I am now making sure her water is ph’d at around 5.8. I tested the coco recently and it read 5.7.
Now, my plant is getting bigger but the color is alarming. Will it grow out of it now that I have my pH under control? I feed her general hydro flora series weekly. Tested ppm runoff at between 500-600 (using blue lab) not sure what the issue is. Any advice is greatly appreciated. My other plants definitely do not have these issues but I’m also not growing them in coco. (They’re in FFOF)

what do you guys think?

It’s just that plant. It’s got a bit of variegation going on. Variegated Leaf Nothing to worry about IMO. Sometimes people panic and think it’s a virus, but it usually isn’t, and yours looks healthy.

You’re aware you have to feed/water daily with coco right?

Edit- maybe ‘have to’ isn’t always true. But generally it works best on a daily feed/water routine. It doesn’t do well when dried out.

One thing I see off the bat is that you need to lift our pots off of those plates somehow. You don't want those sitting in the runoff, and you'd preferably have airflow underneath so it dries completely out

In coco, you typically feed twice or more times a day at 1/4% nutrient ratio @ 5.8-6.1 input.

With coco feed/water at least once daily. Always use a lighter feed than the manufacturer suggests. Ph 5.8-6.2 and allow the ph to wander between the 2. Some nutrients are best taken up at the low end and some at the high end. If you mix a batch higher than 6.2 that’s cool. Alway feed with a little runoff to avoid salt build ups.

Yes! I’ve been feeding it nutes weekly and watering with pH’d water and cal mag daily! At the beginning I definitely treated it like FFOF. It was all bad. But it sounds like it will grow out of the color so that’s good to hear!!

I will look into better plates! Thank you! Not sure what I can use around the house in the meantime

It probably won’t grow out of that colour. Personally I think they’re pretty and you may as well enjoy it.

It’s probably been getting most of its nutrients through the daily waterings with calmag, which is usually fairly high in N and other nutrients. But I’d switch to regular daily feeding.

Some of the worlds most potent strains will show variegation. Chemdog D variegation is known as the “mark of the beast”
Oh wow! Good to know! I thought it was a cool look but was terrified at the same time lol! this is a seed from a bag of wifi OG that I received

Thank you! I thought it was a nice camouflage looking color lol I was just afraid I screwed it up big time! I will stop giving it cal mag with the daily watering and just when I feed it weekly. I’m glad you guys think it’s doing well! Makes me feel much calmer lol

So just for confirmation: I should feed her flora series daily with cal mag
Asking because I’ve heard about Nute burn and wasn’t sure if that was the issue here and I get confused between “feeding” and “watering” and how others use them.

Like @Pennywise says, ya gotta feed every day. I'm a coco guy and I love it. My ph does fluctuate too but only because I say, mmmmmmm...looks good. I know most of you guys use pens but I've noticed the drops in the ph kit take a minute to show true color if you've had it a while. They're gonna take off soon! Have a great new year. Smile and stay stoneder

Would you say I can use the same water I mix up to feed her until it’s gone or do I need to mix up new nutes every time? I go based on a gallon but she’s only in a 1 gallon pot right now so she doesn’t get all the water at one time.

Don't use full dosage... 1/4 strength...

Looks like you're in good hands here. Don't let it go dry and get lots of runoff to keep the coco clean of any buildup. It's fine to make up a batch and use it through the week or whatever. Wouldn't hurt to recheck the ph of the solution after a few days but it's likely all good. I'd recommend keeping the container somewhere dark and cool. The proper term we should probably be using is fertigate instead of watering or feeding to avoid confusion. Nice garden by the way.

Thank you so much for this clarification! Truly appreciate it!
