Hello, greetings, aloha! I made an intro post last year and swore I’d be up and growing by November 2019. Procrastinated until April 11, 2020. I think I was home for COVID-19 from work at the time and thought, what the Hell am I waiting for? Just some history, I’ve grown a few indoor grows in the past, only photoperiods before and trying autos for the first time. So, here is the run down.
What strain is it? Started 6 seeds in paper towels in bags on a heating pad on 4/11. They were 2 Auto Purple Diesel from Advance Seeds, 2 Strawberry Cheesecake Auto Fem from Dank Seeds (I believe) and 2 Northern Lights Auto from Seedsman. I labeled them as follows, NL#1, NL#2, SCC#1, SCC#2, PD#1 and PD#2. They are all Indica dominant strains.
Is it in Veg or Flower stage? Here is what is interesting. They all appear to NOW be in flower. More later on this subject…
Indoor in a Vivosun 2’ deep x 4’ wide x 5’ high tent, my next upgrade is a bigger tent. Running a Vivosun 600-watt full spectrum LED. Also have an oscillating fan in the tent just above the canopy and a 6-inch Active Air by Hydrofarm exhaust fan rated at 400 cfm running full blast. Just for help I have a box fan positioned at one of the tent intakes to ensure the air in the tent is somewhat fresh. Temps are running 75- degrees to 85-degrees F and RH averaging around 45%-50% now that we’re in flower.
Soil grow in Fox Farms Ocean Forrest, now in 3-gallon pots.
Watering/feeding currently about every 3 days or so. Check them daily, some are drinkers and some, not so much. Keeping my pH at 6.3-6.8 (adjusted after adding nutes as required). My feed is Fox Farms liquid nutes, Big Bloom, Grow Big, Tiger Bloom and also Humboldt County’s Own flower supplements, Snow Storm Ultra, Purple Maxx and Gravity (Version 5.0 believe it or not lol!). I started the grow off with the intension of running the Fox Farms at half strength, but I find myself pushing it now that I’ve built up a comfort level. Additionally, for pH am using Earth Juice pH Up and pH down crystals. I record all feedings including date, time, ingredients, pH, if adjusted, ppm and temperature for each feeding.
Any Pests? A few fungus gnats seem to follow me in life, what’s new. But not enough for me to freak out.
On to the grow. I started my beans on 4/11. They all popped by 4/13 and I started them in Root Riot Cubes under a humidity dome under two 23-watt CFLs and the tray went back on the heating pad. Water only until planting and watering in at least once. 5 of the 6 came up. I’m afraid I may have damaged the sixth one’s root putting in the cube. LESSON LEARNED- be gentle.
My inexperience with autos begins to show here. I transplanted them all into 4x4 pots on 4/18, even though SCC#2 did not come up, just hoping. I gave up on the unsprouted plant and threw it out on 4/21. I call this week one of the grow. LESSON LEARNED- with autos, plant straight into final media.
I began feeding on 4/21. Followed my intended feeding schedule then transplanted into 3-gallon plastic pots with Fox Farms Ocean Forrest with some additional pearlite.
Began LST on 5/5 on all but NL#1 because it wasn’t looking very healthy. I was thinking possibly root rot, so I just stopped watering or feeding and kept an eye on it.
Started flower nutes as planned on 5/10 for all except NL#1, just watered her.
When all of this started, I intended on running CFL and switching to my 400-watt HPS to flower, but I live in coastal Texas and it’s just too damn hot to run it in the summer, so I got my LED light on 5/12 and got it up and running that day. I also removed NL#1 from the garden as I was suspecting she may be a he. My son-in-law is trying to take care of he/she now.
By 5/17 3 were in full flower; PD#1, PD#2 and SCC#2. NL#2 just seemed like she was going to veg out for a wee bit longer. And in the meantime, PD#2 started turning purple, this is pretty sweet as I never have grown purple bud until now, super stoked!
By the way, many details have been omitted such as adding more CFL lights, defoliating, etc. as I’m way into this grow now. I’m hoping some of the pictures (if I can figure out to upload them) will help answer questions if there are any. Otherwise, ask and I’ll tell.
I never measured height until 5/26 and the results were; PD#1 at 10.25-inches, PD#2 at 9-inches, SCC#2 at 13.875-inches and NL#2 (still in veg.) at 12-inches. All plants looking healthy. All of the flowering plants very visible heavy crystals on the tops. And bud production is ON! At this point I’m thinking, “the Northern Lights must be photos…”
On 5/27 a major storm blew through right after the lights came on (my night cycle was running noon to 4 PM) and shut the lights off until midnight, maybe 1 AM. The next morning, I reset the timer. So they basically all got a full 12/12 cycle for one day.
Checked the height again on 5/28 and PD#1 was 11.5” (+1.25”), PD#2 was 9” (+0”), SCC#2 was 14.625” (+0.75”) and NL #2 was 12.25” (+0.25”).
My lights went off at 11:30 today, I adjusted my timer out to 19/5, just following my gut here, thinking I can get NL#2 to flower. Took a few pics just as the lights shut off, and she is flowering! Hell, she was about 14.5” (+2.25 in 1 day!) tall when I looked before the lights went out. I don’t know if it was triggered by the 12/12? I just got off the phone with my Dad and he is also growing some Seedsman NL Auto, he has one that took 3 months to flower right now and she’s looking beautiful and almost ready to harvest next to another one that only took 60 days! Pretty crazy stuff… Anybody else seen this happen before? I’ll try to do this upload now. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!!
PEACE!!!
