First time grower needs help with grow room design

Hi there,

I am building a small grow room, and I need help from experienced growers, as this is my
first indoor grow.

Dimensions w/l/h: 6.5 foot, or 43 sq.ft area.

Walls will be covered with the mylar diamond foil.

1. How many 600W HPS lights do I need for that area, if I use Adjust-A-Wing reflectors?

2. Do I need a digital ballast for each lamp?

3. What kind of ventilation is needed for that grow room size? Is 15000 ft3t/h enough or too much?

4. I'm growing a sativa dominant plants(blue dream), how many plants should I grow in that area?

Thanks!

1. You could go by watts per square foot. To attain 55 watts per square foot you would need four 600 watt fixtures.
2. You need a ballast for each lamp, it doesn't HAVE to be digital though.
3. They say you want ventilation that will exchange the air in the room once every 3-5 minutes. We would need to know how many cubic feet your grow area is.
4. Tricky question, you could grow many smaller plants or fewer larger plants. Poke around this site a bit and you will be better equipped to answer this on your own.

You should stick around a while Steven. There is a wealth of information available on this site. Perhaps start here: How to Grow Marijuana Everything You Need to Know

I didn't get the dimensions- it seems incomplete- but if you are saying it is 43 square feet- ok. My flowering room is roughly 55 square feet. Or about 7.5. X 7.5

I fit two 600 watt lights in there at the back end. They each cover an area of plant growth 4' deep (looking in towards back wall) by 38" wide. This leaves me roughly a 12" space to try to squeeze in between the plants and do stuff- though it's cramped. Here is a picture.

The fan and filter are overhead and most other stuff hangs from the walls. The rest of the room ( in front side- which you can't see in the pic) contains a water reservoir and a drying box, and there are a couple shelves up in the walls to hold stuff.
It's quite cramped. I have 8 plants growing - 4 per light- each with an individual scrog screen. I can access the far corner plants by either leaning way in there, or by placing the front center plants on the water reservoir and the drying box, which give me room to work on them better.
There is just enough room to operate.
Any more lights in this area and I would pay a huge price in terms of function, and sanity. So I wouldn't recommend more than 2 lights- unless you have a big doorway and a large room next door where you can do all the things you need to do to keep those plants going- even then I wouldn't recommend it :)
Hope this helps a bit. As for your specific questions I would pretty much echo what JC said above, including the bit about sticking around
