First time grow

Hi im a total newbie and trying to much research as possible before I ask any silly questions lol.

I have 3 seeds 2 seeds have already germinated with a tap root. Now I am ready to put in my medium/soil but my question is can I put under my 600w led light straightaway?

Or others say once planted germinated seed in soil put in dark room and wait till leaves sprouted. Where others claim they pout under lights straightaway.

OK awesome.

My next question.

I have bought the germinated seeds in soil under my led lights. Do I need to turn my two speed fan on which is connected to the carbon filter would this need to be on at this early stage?

Also im in the uk it is a warmer week but my grow tent is the back shed made out of bricks. Would the led 600w light panel I'm using be enough to give the relevant heat to them? and if not what do I do or use?

Thank you so much

Thank you once again really appreciate your swift replies.

I have ordered my temperature/humidity checker wont arrive until another 5 days. It feels warm in there but not maybe not 75F.

just to know at what stage would I be tuning the fans on and would need the use of a dehumidifier?

also the nutrients provided in my grow tent pack Canna A +B at what stage would the nutrients be used I know I’m no where near this stage but I want to make sure I do things correctly and try to be ahead of the game very daunting first grow lol.

the one seed still has not germinated it is exodus cheese and is probably older then 5 years but has been in the seal packaging from the green seed company’s it has been 4 days still no sign of germination. Currently in paper towel still read how older seeds have a harder shell so may take longer or may need to use other methods to try save the seed. I originally soaked it for 6-9 hrs.

I apologise for all the questions but I’m just a newbie wanting to learn to get my first plant perfect.
Thank you once again

Hi Tommy.

I'm a UK grower too.
As said you want your light on straight away. I would start with it around 2 foot above but if the stems look like they are stretching lower it a couple of inches at a time.
If you are growing in a shed you may want to run your light during the night when it's colder, it will give a bit of heat but it might not be enough.
I had my tent I'm my loft and bought a little greenhouse tube heater to keep the temps up.

I don't bother running extraction until they are a few weeks old, I just leave a vent open with a small fan circulating the air.

It really depends on your soil as to when you start feeding nutes.
Some soils have enough in them to feed the plants for a few weeks.
Generally people start to feed once the plant has a couple of sets of leaves.
Start feeding at a quarter dose and see how they react, that way you can gradually build up the dosage.
One of the most important things where new growers get it wrong is overwatering.
You need to let them dry out totally between waterings.
If you do a search on here for Emilyas the proper way to water a potted plant and have a read. Follow her watering advice and you won't go wrong.

With regards to your seed that hasn't sprouted yet, they can take over a week sometimes, just keep it moist and warm and it might still sprout.

If after 10 days, @tommy1892, then I would suggest washing the seed off with some peroxide, scarifying the seed and re-soak the seed in a glass of room temperature water.

Old seed can be hard to sprout, but it is OK to leave it in the glass of water for more than 24hrs. Generally speaking, seeds don’t need access to air until they “crack” (split along one side and start showing white. At this point, you can either put it in damp paper towel, or right into moist peat to finish germination.

There are some other tricks as well but require some preparation ahead of time. If you have issues and it won’t sprout, reach out, all may not be lost.

Wait till the plants emerge. You can have a small fan on them as soon as they sprout, but keep it very light.

Wait till the plant is about a week or longer into there life before adding nutes.

the method I always choose for germination. Is I soak in water for 12 hours (in a cupboard, somewhere dark.
After twelve hours. I tap it down till it sinks. Then soak for another twelve hours. Then remove and into a paper towel, wet but not drenched. Fold twice, and into a sandwich baggy for another 24 hours.

I used to soak seeds, and use the paper towel method. It does work, and I still soak old seeds for about 12 hours. These days I'm getting a slightly higher germ rate by scraping the side of the seed a little bit with a knife/razor blade (not cutting, scraping) just so some dust comes off, then putting it into a jiffy pod under a dome on a folded towel on top of a heat mat. The paper towel method was better for my ADD, as I didn't have to wait 3 days to see anything happen, but I had the insides of a couple of seeds turn to mush that way, while the jiffy pod method has had every seed break the surface, and the only one that died was the one that thought roots were supposed to grow up rather than down.

Hi Celt,

Once again thank you so much for your advice. Just wanted to give you some history on the two type of seeds im trying to germinate.
The first couple of seeds was found from really good strain in a seed bag (in my cannabis) these seeds looked great in colour so decided to germinate I soaked for 8 hrs and then placed in paper towel method which I placed in plastic kitchen tub and covered with lid with a slight gap and then placed in a cardboard box in my porch as its warm in there good sunlights comes through there to keep warm. They sprouted within 48 hrs - 3rd day they I then placed into my medium placed lights on seen the seed break through the soil already, I placed them in my medium on Wednesday and today Saturday can see the seed pop out of soil and opening slightly. Im just hoping this one is a female potent plant will see?

The other seeds were purchased over 5 years ago and are in the company tight air packaging - from The Green House Seed CO. The strain is the medical exodus cheese. So I soaked 1 seeds in water for 9 hrs and the other seed 24 hrs placed both the paper towel method. It was done at the same time as the other strain which is already in soil and these have not even germinated. Its been 6 days and I cant see no progress, I have disturbed the seeds often as I have been very impatient. Also I did some research on google saving seeds and so on so me trying to be a hero, I picked the seed up with my tweezer and tried to sand down the seed very so lightly, I then put into my hand and tried to pinch if was still hard where I herd a crack I placed back in paper towels and now left worried that I have broken the seed if that is possible. Also is it worth me just gambling on these two seeds and just put them straight in to soil and see if they germinate in the soil. (I know I just messed these two seeds up and dont want to mess up any more putting it extremely politely I know I have to be so more patient).

I am now on my 3rd exodus cheese seed where I soaked for 24 hrs placed in paper towel this morning, and going to be a lot more patient with this one and try to only look at it every 24 hrs instead of every 9 hrs. Do you think its worth getting some jiffy pellets and germinating these seeds if this third seed does not germinate.

Thank you for letting me pick your brain once again.

OK, there are a couple other options that may help your situation:

First is the perlite germination I have seen else where on the site and have used it recently with success. Fill a solo cup with perlite, poke holes in the cup about midway up and fill with water, the water will drain down to the hole level but the perlite will stay damp due to the reservoir at the bottom. Bury the seed about 1” (2.5 cm) and wait, if not too old/hard she will sprout and when she has broke surface and shed her helmet, pour the perlite out and transplant into your medium of choice, just be gentle with her as you transplant.

This next method is much more advanced and requires careful measuring and monitoring of growth, but will cause even very very old seed to germinate so long as it is still viable. If after trying the other methods, if the seed has not gone soft/squishy (meaning it rotted) you can mix a solution of GA3 (gibberellic acid) at 4 - 500 ppm and soak the seed 8 - 12 hrs in this solution and then go to one of the other methods after the soak. If the seed is viable at all, this will break its dormancy.

To get the required ppm, 0.4 to 0.5 grams of GA3 per litre of water so very fine measurements when mixing and need to be dissolved in 5 - 10ml of alcohol first and then mixed with the water.

A word of caution using this method, the seedling will stretch madly for the first week or 2 so it is advisable to put the seedling in a solo cup about 1/4 full of soil and keep adding soil as she stretches so she doesn’t fall over under her own weight.

GA3 is quite cheap in the sense I bought 10g for $20 on amazon, and that will last me years, probably enough to keep me going to I die lol

ok great mate. If I herd the seeds cracked when I pinched them doesn't mean they are damaged then or have died.

Would you not advise to put the two seeds straight in to my professional medium?

I will give the perlite germination a go first.

Also the GA3 I found on amazon the link below could you check if this one is ok to use.

Any advice on the latest seed which I soaked for 24 hrs and now in tub ware in cardboard box in my porch. How often should I look if sported in papertowel.

I would be more inclined to go with the more expensive stuff for a few reasons, often ify about the quality of things like that coming outta China lol but the other stuff is also 90% purity which works with the concentrations I gave.

Can you order from amazon from other countries there in the UK, I am in Canada and GA3 was a lot cheaper here, that 90% stuff at 25£ for 5g is about 2x the price for half the quantity I bought here.

Or see if these guys will ship to you, they are the ones I use and it definitely works, I have used twice in the past 6 months for selfing plants and producing seed, bought it nearly 3 years ago.
