First post: what in Asgard is this thing?

Hi guys,

I'm an old school outdoor grower from the early 90s. I gave it a break for a while and recently was given some seeds from a trusted friend. They germinated well enough but recently...well they just don't look like normal cannabis plants. Check out the weird red bud thing growing on the centre stem. Also, the leaves aren't the normal serrated type. Unless new strains have popped up with whacky attributes, I'm not actually sure what I am growing!

Thanks for your replies guys. Well I just spoke to my dear friend of over 20 years who provided me with the seed stock. She took them out of the bottom of a bag of buds and put them in a tin which she then gave to me. She has been involved in cannabis for as long as I have known her. This is a very very curious case. I will continue to look after them and get back to you. Thanks again!

Looks like a type of celosia plant to me.

Hello Red, and welcome to 420 Magazine. That's a nice healthy plant you have there. Not a cannabis plant for sure unless aliens have gifted us a new species but it's still very healthy and great practice.
Once you acquire some cannabis seeds I'm sure you will have just as good of success.

I used to troll for walleye, and I'm known to troll the other side politically from time to time elswhere....I know trolling is fun. I don't mind being a walleye in certain circumstances :D Was fun lookin!

Did you troll those Walleye with rod & reel or did you wire-line for them?

Enjoy the day.

Every time I plant a Marijuana seed I put the name and date on the side of the container. Record keeping is helpful later down the road.

Another thing I do is put a toothpick right next to where that seed was pushed into the soil. If something comes up and there is no toothpick next to it then there is a really good possibility that it is not a Marijuana seedling.

Since this thread is in the Outdoor Growing sub-forum what are the chances that a seed blew into the pot or container? Or, is is possible that some soil from the garden was mixed into whatever is in the container.

I still vote OP is messing with us

Butt!!!!!

If OP does come back to explain how and why, then maybe I'm wrong

But they probably won't be...
Ya, I thought of that but just in case he or she comes back like you mention.

Just as importantly is if someone else wanders by and reads the thread I am hoping that they might find my suggestion helps them avoid a real problem down the road.

Then there are the people that join and ask a question or two and then never come back. Either they don't like the answer, don't believe the answer or don't understand the answer.:)

I see a post like this almost monthly

Lol

Kids being kids and messing with us

Hi everyone. Thanks for the replies. I'm almost 50 years old so a little too old for trolling! My question was genuine but I understand you must get some jokers on here quite often.

The seeds looked exactly like cannabis seeds in terms of size, colouring and shape. As I said, they did come from the bottom of a bag of cannabis bud so that is why I am very confused. Indeed it does look quite a bit like a celosia. Whatever it is, my oldest and dearest friend has been smoking the parent matter of this seed for some time. I will keep developing it and give you updates over the weeks.

Sorry if my initial post created some skepticism around whether I was being genuine or not. I really appreciate the responses.

These are all great points. I have 9 of these plants which are all identical. I planted each seed in a peet propagation container. I did have about 15 of them but just kept the healthiest ones. Of the 9 that I have, only 6 have presented with this central stem flower pattern. I used brand new bags of compost and premium potting mix for propagation and transplanting. The chances of none of the cannabis seeds coming up and only these interloping seeds from an external source coming up in each peet container must be astronomically small.

Ok guys...your questions have allowed me to solve this mystery. As I was typing about how I propagated the seed, I remembered one important detail....I was lacking around 2-3 cms of topsoil on all of the pots when I filled them and used the soil from an old pot....forgetting that 18 months ago it had a celosia in it which I ripped out after it died.

Soooo....obviously none of the cannabis seeds came up and I have been covertly hiding my celosia growing from my neighbours. I am horribly embarrassed lol.

One good thing has come out of this. I will indeed get reputable stock next time. Thanks so much for your responses and your warm welcome!
