alrite guys i was wondering if anybody could help me ive recently started growing as the smoke ive been getting is getting worse each time, and costing me to much. i bought some seeds on holiday and i planted 1 put a too powerful light in and killed it. ive now planted my last few seeds and this time there having problems theyve been growin for about 6 days and it seems like there growing realy slow on the first leaves (very first 1s out the seed) it looks like there going a purple/black underneath and one of them is growing sideways and only 1 of the first proper leaves seems to be growing.
any help would be appreciated

not an expert, but soil looks muddy and really wet. maybe overwatering? killed bunch of seedlings like that myself last year. roots cant breath when soils is clumpy

ive only watered them the once when i noticed them starting to sprout the compost i got is clumpy tho ill go get some different compost and re-pot them thanks m8

oh and watering tip (worked for me) - take a spray bottle fill it with tap water (or rain water) and pray them with daily dosage not once in 6 days, just few sprays. stick your finger in soil, if dirt sticks to your finger, its wet enough. small seedlings dont drink much anyway :p
you will feel when plants need more food :)

Do u have any perlite in it mix?

im not sure i just grabbed a bag of compost from the local garden center, the first 1 i killed with the light grew with no problems, i just put a 600watt light on it in a small space the heat killed it

I freaked out at every little thing in my seedling stage. In the end all it was, was freaking out. I run two 450w LEDs and had them both on since I planted. They were probably 36-40" above though.

The soil is your biggest issue IMO. I would highly recommend using Roots Organic or Fox Farms Ocean Forrest. If that isn't an option than you need to get some perlite to add space in your soil for roots to take hold and breathe and water to evenly disperse. Also make sure they are in cups with holes at the bottom for drainage.

I just used solo cups, poked little holes in the bottom and then transplanted into bigger pots when it was ready. You want your humidity high so either a plastic dome over the top helps or you can even do sandwich baggies.

Lastly I soak mine in 75 degree water for 24 hours in a dark place and then plant in water that is damp and they tend to spring right up! Feel free to ask any other questions, I feel like this is the hardest part of my grow so far! Environment is everything!

Oh yeah after a few days put some indirect wind in your area to cause just a tiny movement and help the stem strengthen.

FYI none of these are proper leaves ;). You won't see those until the next sets. Then they go 3-5-7 points and you finally get proper leaves! I feel like I give a pretty good summary on this stage in my grow journal if you want to check it out!

First issue is your soil. Get a quality potting soil with perlite in. Never over water, just a little at a time and allow to dry out between waterings. Regular compost will be too hot for seedlings and if its full of timed release notes you asking for trouble. You are better off starting seedlings in jiffy pellets or rock wool cubes with plain water (water below 0.7 ec) and a little root stimulator. once the seedlings are rooted transplant to the soil, you will have a much higher success doing it that way.

Seedlings take a while to develop. It can sometimes take a couple of weeks to get a set of leaves on depending on the environment you are growing in. Don't have strong light directly above them in the beginning.

Even though I havent even completed my own grow yet (working on it) I've learned a little about seedlings since Im trying/tried to germinate/grow 30 plants from seed. Only 20 will make it past germination.

Your "soil" is killing your plants, you can't just use compost as a standalone soil because it's full of nutrients and has poor poor aeration and drainage, the compost bag you bought would be good for "amending' other proper soil. So go buy a bag of Potting Mix (no 6 month feeding potting mix) keep the bag of compost for when you do your 3rd transplant, you can then mix fresh soil - perlite with your compost.

If your seeding is still alive, gently try to wash (spray) away the compost and replant immediately, but replant into something a lot smaller than the pot you are using. Cut a 500ml plastic bottle in half, cut some holes in the bottom, put proper soil in and transplant that seed.

One thing to do right now would be to use 3% Hydrogen Peroxide and pour a little right at the stem. The HP will give the roots a quick burst of oxygen and hopefully they come back.
