Hello Everyone,

I started a thread in the "Grower's Lounge" forum that was moved to the FAQ section but realized that since I plan to update this frequently I might as well attempt to complete a journal, right?

Anywho,

I am currently in the midst of my first grow. I have been visiting forums, reading books, and watching youtube videos for years before finally giving this a go. It wasn't until recently that I found out someone I knew was growing so I thought: why not me? Cannabis has been such a huge part of my life and is the only thing that has helped with my anxiety and depression so why not grow my own medicine? After enough research I ended up deciding on Next Generation's Dynamite for my first grow.

I started some seeds in late January and things have been going pretty good so far.

As you may notice, one disappeared. It was a male. This is a crime punishable by death. Being a dictator, I felt that an execution was necessary. It was a slow and painful death.

Oddly enough, two of my plants have shown pre-flowers. One is a female and the other was the male mentioned before. The other two have no signs of sex. Is it common for plants that started at the same time to show signs of maturity at different times?

Moving along,

(During transplant, how do they look to you?)

I was away for the weekend and couldn't believe how much they had grown in just two days. I purchased another 7x7 pot because one of the 3 was still in a 5x5. I honestly planned for the 7x7 to be the final size for these plants (the plan is to keep 1 or 2 mothers). Is that too small of a pot size for a fully mature mother plant?

I hope to hear from you guys/girls soon!

Thanks for joining! I plan to update once a week every Sunday. I'll contribute to the forum during the week obviously but pictures and other updates will be easiest for me on Sundays. Also, nice to meet you!

That's been my schedule for my journal since the beginning. It shows a bigger difference week to week in growth. Almost so that you don't even notice how big they got until you look back a week or two. Anyways until next update... Keep it green my friend.

Great minds think alike, eh? Haha. Thank you, brother. You do the same.

Anyone care to chime in on whether a 7x7 is big enough for a fully mature plant in hydro?

For just one plant? You could grow a tree in there... Lol. It all depends on how/if you plan on training her. She could easily fill the height, but I think you'd have a hard time getting her to be so big as to fill the area. I'll have 4 regular size plants in a 27"x27",they won't be monster plants but still...they will be well trained and fill. My entire footprint in the end.

My rule of thumb is 1.5 square feet per auto plant and 2-3 square feet per photoperiod plant. But again that depends on pot size/reservoir and length of veg phase and your skill at feeding a monster everyday. I bet you can have 5 at least if you plan on training them..maybe up to 10 depends on how big you want her

I'm an idiot lol. I meant a 7"x7" pot, not a 7x7 room space. I forgot there are lot of dimensions to consider so I should have been more clear. My apologies!

In that case, I'm not hydro grower. I'll try and get someone to answer that for you. But ya, don't you wish you had that space though. Lol

Thank you for the input. HOpefully someone can chime in. Yeah right about now I would absolutely love that space lol.

I would think you could keep a mother plant in just about any size pot. Her size would limit the number of clones you could take at a time though. I'd think it might be easier to keep a mother in soil also, but I kill everything in soil. :biglaugh:

Lol unfortunately soil is too heavy and messy for an apartment dweller like myself. I picked up some 8x8x8 pots today and they're much bigger than the 7x7 I was using so hopefully this will be the last pot for them!

Hey everyone! It's Sunday so that means it's update day!

As you may notice, I've switched to an HPS bulb for veg. I recalled an excerpt from one of Ed Rosenthal's books stating that an HPS bulb is just as effective for vegetative growth for a cannabis plant. Since I had an extra HPS bulb too, I figured why not? My plants have been seeming to love it so no complaints from me.

You may also notice that there are only two plants in the first photo. That's because I was able to determine the sex of all 3 and they all happened to be female. My tent is too small for 3 mother plants so I placed the last one in the flowering tent under a 600w bulb.

How's she looking to you guys?

This is definitely the most exciting part of this all for me lol. Looking forward to some input!

Decided to snap a pic with the MH. It looks so much prettier under an MH in my opinion lol.

Not really sure what to do about the root growth. I went from a 5x5X7 to a 7x7X8 and then an 8x8x10. There is a lot of room in the 8x8x10 for root growth but they just keep finding their way to the bottom and out lol. Any suggestions or is this normal and it's just something I'll have to deal with?

Also, now that they've shown their sex can I start taking cuttings or should I wait for them to mature more?
